Overview
In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards and Fraser Health’s mission, the RN provides direct patient care in an acute medical unit, collaborating with the interprofessional team to deliver person‑centered, evidence‑based nursing care.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients and collect information from multiple sources, formulating nursing diagnoses and planning interventions.
- Collaborate with patients, families and the interprofessional team to develop and implement care plans.
- Participate in admission, care‑planning and discharge activities, ensuring clear communication with the Patient Care Coordinator.
- Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks, and facilitate referrals per protocols.
- Teach patients and families about illness prevention and health maintenance.
- Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes and referrals in accordance with practice standards.
- Participate in committees, quality‑improvement activities, in‑services, and continuous learning initiatives.
- Pre‑serve new staff and students, provide feedback to management and perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.Current BCCNM registration as a Registered Nurse.Post‑graduate coursework or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).Skills And Abilities
Proficient in patient assessment, clinical reasoning and technical nursing interventions.Effective verbal, written and electronic communication with patients, families and the care team.Advocacy for patient‑centered care and diversity‑sensitive practices.Ability to integrate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve.Teaching and instructing patients and families about essential health topics.Organizing and prioritizing work, collaborating with interprofessional team members.Utilising evidence‑based information to support nursing decisions.Operating relevant equipment and basic computer applications.Physical stamina for duties of the position.Benefits
