POSITION SUMMARY :
The Behaviour Resource Consultant (BRC) will design and implement a behaviour intervention and consultation program for children ages 2 14 and their families / caregivers, to help recognize and control their behaviours and develop self-regulation skills with peers.
The BRC will support children and their families who are facing self-regulation and / or behavioural barriers develop strong emotional and social skills.
In support of this goal, the BRC will provide individual and group consultation, consultation to Macaulay community programs, workshops for parents / caregivers and professional development workshops for staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Design and implement behaviour intervention for children and their parents / caregivers. Design and implement evaluation of identified outcomes for the behaviour intervention.
As part of the behaviour intervention : observe children and recommend positive strength-based strategies that will assist them to recognize, regulate and control their behaviour coach children to use these strategies model and teach strategies to staff and parents so they can also support the children to implement the strategies develop individual support plans for children attending the program that include strategies to a) assist them to recognize, regulate and control behaviour, b) support the child and their family to implement strategies, c) facilitate social connections for child with other children, and d) model to parents / staff how to support children's strategies Collect evaluation data.
Work directly with children and their families / caregivers with complex developmental, social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
Provide summary documentation in a timely manner. Develops visual and data materials to support families. Provide parent workshops.
Provide professional workshops for Macaulay staff. Work in collaboration with staff and parents. Ensure that all program related functions, such as Individual Program Plans, data collection and reports are completed in a timely manner.
Maintain appropriate up-to-date records and other administrative requirements in accordance with agency policies and recording guidelines.
Participate in agency or community task forces, committees, and / or work groups as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS :
BA in Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, or equivalent education and experience. Other behavioral certification and / or Child and Youth degree Minimum of 5 years of relevant behavior consultation experience for children 0 14 years old.
Extensive experience working with children 0 - 14 with behaviour, social, developmental and emotional challenges and their parent(s) or caregivers.
Experience working with the early years sector preferred. A member in good standing with their respective College, if applicable.
Sound knowledge of child development, theoretical models and interventions for working with children with specialized needs and their parents.
Excellent observational skills. Ability to plan and implement and monitor intervention strategies for children with moderate to severe extra support needs.
Expertise in providing consultation to families. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education and ability to provide workshop / training opportunities for adults with a broad range of literacy and parenting skills.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to exercise sound judgment.
Excellent planning, organizational time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong understanding of teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a high performing team. Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language a definite asset.
Understanding of and ability to administer data collection. Computer literacy required together with proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and email.
Ability to work all shifts : day, evening and weekend hours. Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
