Position Overview
As a key member of Durwest’s Finance and Accounting Team, the Project Accountant plays a hands-on role in bringing our construction projects to life behind the scenes. This role is at the heart of our operations, owning the financial story of each project from setup through closeout. You will ensure project financials are accurate, timely, and compliant, while partnering closely with the Controller to deliver reliable reporting, meet regulatory requirements, and ensure revenue is billed and collected in line with contract terms.

Key Focus Areas
Project Billing & Revenue Management
- Manage, prepare, and submit progress claims and client invoices for all active projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Track holdbacks and confirm all required documentation is in place prior to release
- Prepare invoices for tools and equipment charges in accordance with contractual terms
- Follow up on unpaid contract billings and support timely collection efforts
- Identify and report opportunities for additional billings, as well as potential risks related to client payments
Project Setup, Contracts & Cost Control
Review and interpret project contracts and subcontract agreements to ensure accurate project setup and alignment with contractual termsReview vendor contracts, monitor account totals, and identify variances, partnering with Project Managers to investigate and resolve discrepanciesOversee job costing to ensure project costs are accurately tracked and reportedClose out project accounts upon completion, ensuring all costs are captured and final billings are processedFinancial Operations (AP, AR & Payments)
Oversee and support accounts payable and accounts receivable activitiesManage vendor payments, ensuring timely processing and accurate financial recordsCommunicate with clients and vendors regarding invoices and project financial matters as neededReporting, Reconciliation & Compliance
Prepare monthly reconciliations and financial reports for the Controller’s reviewReconcile total project costs in Procore on a monthly basis to ensure alignment with financial recordsAssist with the preparation and filing of regulatory remittances, including WorkSafeBC, EHT, GST, and PST, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and company policiesSystems, Integration & Collaboration
Manage and maintain the integration between Procore and Acumatica to support accurate and reliable project dataWork closely with Project Managers to review budgets, change orders, and forecast projections, ensuring financial accuracy and alignment across teamsCommunicate key financial insights and risks to leadership to support informed decision-makingPayroll
Contribute to the bi-weekly payroll process, including reviewing timesheets, syncing employee data between HRIS and payroll software, and reviewing payroll before processing.Who You Are
You are a detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong understanding of construction or project-based accounting principles. You are comfortable working with ERP systems such as Acumatica (or similar) and proficient in Excel.
You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with Project Managers, vendors, clients, and internal stakeholders. You can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and take a proactive, solutions-focused approach to resolving discrepancies and potential issues.
You bring a positive attitude and a collaborative mindset, contributing to a supportive, engaged, and high-performing team.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum of three (3) years of experience in a project accounting role, intermediate accounting role or public practiceConsidered an Asset :
Enrollment in, or progress toward, a CPA designationExperience working with ERP systemsExperience with construction accounting, including progress billings, holdbacks, and job costingStrong working knowledge of Excel and financial reporting toolsExperience working cross-functionally with project teams and operations leadersWhy Join Durwest?
