Summary of Position :

AWC Operations Canada (AWCC) performs many logistics functions. Some of these are real time yard management, real time data transfers, real time vehicle direct locating, dealer delivery, import / export preparations, rail car preparation and switching, rail car loading and unloading, and extensive assembly plant operations.

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing all activities of the operation at the AWCC Wolverton, ON facility which provides logistics services for Glovis Canada Inc.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Tasks :

  • Reviews and approves adequate plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labour efficiency, material efficiency, customer service.
  • Reviews performance against operating plans and standards. Provides reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and approves changes in direction of plans.
  • Presents monthly reports on performance results as requested by the VP Regional Operations.
  • Develops and presents to the District Manager matters requiring higher decision authority.
  • Reviews and understands and is responsible for any facility accounting statements.
  • Develops and recommends operational policy for the Facility.
  • Ensures compliance with Company Policies, Labour Agreements, as well as Federal, Provincial, and Local Laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and approves cost reports, manpower, and facility requirements forecasts.
  • Reviews and recommends capital expenses and establishes budget recommendations for the Facilities.
  • Develops and maintains excellent business relationships with customer representatives.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Establishes objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issues specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and reviews objectives of the Operations management.
  • Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommends compensation for them.
  • Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of personnel and provides the necessary coordination between activities.
  • Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility.
  • Keeps associates informed as to Company / facility plans and progress.
  • Consults with all segments of management responsible for policy or action. Ensures compliance within area of responsibility.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources Manager on personnel related issues to ensure compliance and consistency. Makes recommendations for improving effectiveness of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that duties, responsibilities, authority and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture, the facilities open door policy, and the company's value statement "We treat others how they want to be treated."
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment; assist with snow removal or other property maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required :

  • Exhibit a behaviour and conduct that maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management.
  • Maintain good and regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a variety of work situations.
  • Present a positive demeanor.
  • Be able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Follow and adhere to all company, contractual and regulatory safety policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, and Minimum Requirements :

  • Post-secondary education in related field of study or minimum five (5) years experience in Rail operations and Automotive warehousing, and shipping industry.
  • Minimum three (3) years of supervisory / management experience, responsible for all operational disciplines.
  • Valid full G driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word, Excel and e-mail required; ability to learn and adapt to new computer systems and software programs.
  • Active Standard First Aid CPR A + AED.
  • Ability to pass third party pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Subject to a background check including driving record, criminal record check and credit check.
  • Must have the ability to work in Canada without sponsorship.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities.

Working Conditions :

  • Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
  • Working at a height of approximately 15 ft. above ground.
  • Personal Protective Equipment

Physical Requirements :

  • Good sense of balance.
  • Lift (including above head), push, pull, or carry up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • Stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, grip.
  • Ability to get in / out of vehicles driver side door with minimal door opening clearance.
  • Good visual ability.
