Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation, development, implementation, and maintenance of company safety policies, including Safe Work Practices, Safe Job Procedures, Daily Attendance records, Progress Photos, and the Site Emergency Response Plan.
- Oversee and monitor the safety performance of all on-site workers to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
- Assess, recommend, and enforce appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Complete safety supply requisitions, maintain daily attendance records, and ensure full Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) compliance.
- Coordinate and conduct site safety orientations and toolbox meetings for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Monitor the safe operation of heavy equipment and provide education and guidance on proper use.
- Report, document, and investigate near misses, injuries, incidents, and thefts, and implement corrective actions as required.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and act as the primary liaison with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) authorities for the applicable province.
- Prepare and submit safety reports to the Site Superintendent and designated Head Office staff.
- Deliver internal safety training, including Fall Protection and other certifications, where qualified.
- Identify hazards, analyze root causes, and recommend improvements to safety standards and procedures.
- Provide internal WHMIS training and maintain current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documentation.
- Ensure all products and materials have properly tracked and dated MSDS records.
- Maintain accurate records of safety equipment inventories and inspection schedules.
- Recommend external safety training programs as needed to address regulatory or operational requirements.
Skills And Experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry.Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related safety or construction program.National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation, or actively working toward certification preferred.Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA 3) certification preferred.Strong working knowledge of current Safe Work Practices and applicable safety regulations.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse personalities in a tactful, decisive, and resourceful manner.Proven strong work ethic and a positive, collaborative team‑oriented attitude.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Benefits
