YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE

Reporting to the Community Relations in Ontario you will be part of the Indigenous Affairs Department. You will be accountable to increase cultural awareness, recruitment and development of Indigenous Peoples, which includes training programs, community relations and consultation support for DLM.

You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Advocate for increased awareness surrounding Indigenous equity and inclusion in operational activities;
  • Support the identification and development of strategies to address employment barriers for Indigenous Peoples;
  • Build and maintain relationships with employment and training coordinators from Partner Indigenous Nations;
  • Support internal departments in improving and fulfilling commitments related to procurement processes as it relates to employment, education and training;
  • Support delivery and continual improvement of Indigenous awareness training and capacity building;
  • Leverage culturally appropriate practices, to help demonstrate employment and / or retention strategies;
  • Organize and facilitate cultural ceremonies and activities at DLM;
  • Support attendance, wellness monitoring and employee relations as it pertains to personnel retention, family, bereavement, spirituality and community engagement issues;
  • Support administrative responsibilities (e.g., note taking) that advance commitments and activities with Partner Indigenous Nations;
  • Support Indigenous talent enrolled in DLM programs, such as the Apprenticeship Program, Indigenous Supervisory Program, Test of Workplace Essentials Skills (TOWES) programs and other training opportunities;
  • Support the Human Resources team in providing weekly performance updates, recruitment strategies, corrective actions and assistance, interviews and associated follow-up;
  • Support the communication of Indigenous employee progression, promotions and career changes to Partner Indigenous Nations and designated coordinators upon request;
  • Coordinate and / or attend community engagement functions including National Indigenous Peoples Day, National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Nation-specific celebrations, job fairs and other community events;
  • Collaborate with external agencies to promote employment, training, education, mental health and as-needed social support programs within communities;
  • Document records of engagement and consultation through Borealis;
  • Assist in planning, executing and documenting engagement and consultation activities in support of regulatory permits and approvals;
  • Support implementation of commitments with Partner Indigenous Nations in conformity with internal guidelines and key performance indicators;
  • Participate in audits that ensure compliance with agreements or standards;
  • Collect the information needed to produce various internal and external communication and reporting requirements;
  • Support the development and continual improvement of a Community Relations Strategy for Ontario;
  • Support the Community Relations team in the achievement of DLM-specific objectives;
  • Collaborate with environment, human resources, procurement, communications, and other internal functions to implement the company’s community relations strategies and procedures;
  • As part of 7 : 7 rotation, travel to participate in various outreach events, such as career fairs, meetings, and celebrations;
  • Continually seek opportunities to grown and enhance your skills that support your role and Indigenous Affairs team.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field, or minimum five years of experience coordinating development programs in the mining or industrial sector, developing and implementing recruitment initiatives, consultation and engagement, and working with Indigenous Nations;
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols, traditions, and practices;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing, with a commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect in the workplace;
  • Effective communication skills, including presentations and report writing;
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and group relation skills, planning and organizing skills, information gathering and analysis skills, and problem solving;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information;
  • Experience developing training budgets and funding requests;
  • Exceptional ability to work within a diverse team;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout Ontario;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote locations;
  • Must wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at DLM, which is supplied for the position, in accordance with site policies, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and / or instructed by DLM;
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills. Bilingualism with French, Cree, Algonquin and / or Anishinaabe consider an asset;
  • Lived experience and understanding of Indigenous Peoples and Northern Ontario considered an asset;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

YOUR WORK SCHEDULE :

  • Schedule : 7 / 7 schedule at our Detour Lake Mine;
  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
