The Intermediate Estimator supports Norpac’s pursuit of heavy civil, geotechnical, and specialty construction work by developing reliable cost information that reflects real field conditions. This role contributes to bids and proposals through quantity development, pricing analysis, and coordination with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
This position is suited to an estimator with geotechnical and civil experience who can complete defined estimating assignments with minimal supervision while leveraging senior team members for review, strategy, and risk evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for assigned portions of work
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports to identify scope, materials, labour, and equipment needs
- Source and assess subcontractor and supplier pricing, ensuring scope alignment and pricing validity
- Participate in site investigations and pre-bid walkthroughs to evaluate access, logistics, and construction constraints
- Price self-performed construction activities, including shotcrete, slope stabilization systems, grouting, drainage works, and concrete construction
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and field leadership to confirm assumptions, methods, and production rates
- Support bid submissions by meeting deadlines and complying with client and contract requirements
- Assist with transition from estimating to construction by clearly documenting pricing logic, exclusions, and risks
- Contribute to early-phase budgets and feasibility-level estimates for prospective projects
- Help maintain cost histories, production data, and estimating standards to improve accuracy over time

At least three years of experience in construction estimating within heavy civil, geotechnical, or infrastructure environmentsPost-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology , or a related fieldClear and effective written and verbal communication skillsPractical understanding of heavy civil construction activities, including earthworks, concrete, formwork, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining systemsGeneral knowledge of construction sequencing, trade coordination, and means-and-methodsStrong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office toolsWillingness to work extended hours during active bid periodsValid driver’s licencePreferred
