Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Manager will support the daily activities and planning of the Brand and Reputation Risk Program.
The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for day-to-day issues management as well as managing opportunities presented to the organization focused on supporting the protection and promotion of HOOPP’s vision, brand, and reputation.
What you will do :
- Supports the public affairs and issues management plan that is outlined by HOOPP’s Brand and Reputation Risk Program.
- Supports and collaborates on an ongoing program of issues monitoring, analysis and reporting with a focus on the public affairs landscape and its impact on HOOPP's brand and reputation.
- Supports the management of proactive and reactive HOOPP public engagements with a focus on telling HOOPP’s story to further the organization’s brand and reputation as well as increase our internal public affairs profile.
- Advises on and prepares responses, in collaboration with M&C to advocacy group campaigns and other public forums that may have a reputational impact on HOOPP.
- Supports the Director in the creation of issue notes, reputation risk assessments and reports for the Executive and Board.
- Supports the analysis and recommendation on action for speaking engagements, sponsorship and endorsement opportunities that showcase or involve HOOPP leaders or highlight the brand.
- Supports the Director in the planning of HOOPP’s regulatory filing process in collaboration with the Media Relations Advisor and the Sustainable Investing team.
- Where necessary, acts as a contributor to issues and reputation management strategies. These issues may have a focus on HOOPP as an investment fund or plan administrator, including HOOPP’s approach to responsible investing or the value proposition associated with pension contributions and related benefit.
- Supports the identification, analysis, reporting and plans to mitigate reputation risks and realize reputation opportunities based on the latest best practices in issues management and public affairs.
- Supports HOOPP's crisis communications plan and works in partnership with our corporate communications team.
- Supports the planning and execution of HOOPP’s Crisis Response Team table-top exercises.
- Contributes to the development of strategies for specific issues management as well as the preparation of related content for internal and external audiences.
- Contributes to communication materials that convey the corporate narrative in alignment with the Brand Strategy. These may include key message documents, presentations, speeches and reports.
- Works effectively and builds trusted relationships across the organization as well as with external partners such as Settlors, pension sector stakeholders including associations, peer plans and external consultants.
- Supports the Media Relations Advisor in providing advice on active media, proof-reading daily news reporting and acting as a backup as needed.
- Supports the maintenance and updating of the Corporate Operations and Strategy policies (Media and External Communications and Sponsorship and Endorsement).
What you bring :
- Experience in proactive and reactive issues management and crisis communications with an ability to respond rapidly and mobilize external and internal support.
- Some background in reputation risk management an asset.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience managing brand and reputation plans, reputation risk assessments and messaging.
- Experience managing brand and reputation in response to public advocacy campaigns.
- A general understanding of the value of corporate and strategic communications.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, with a demonstrated sense of urgency.
- Demonstrated ability to manage numerous conflicting priorities, and to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
- Flexible approach to work and positive attitude.
- A team player who will build and maintain a positive work environment and manage themselves effectively through times of change or crisis.

- Undergraduate degree
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience in public affairs : issues, brand and reputation management, crisis communications and stakeholder relations.
