You will guide your participants through settlement activities, educational resources, recreation opportunities, social services, and the cultural activities they need to thrive.

You will derive a deep sense of satisfaction as you observe your participants get more comfortable navigating these resources themselves using the confidence you’ve instilled in them through your supportive approach.

Essential Functions

  • Be aware of the unique challenges of diverse populations and create responding programs and workshops.
  • Conducting needs assessments and developing personalized settlement plan for newcomers
  • Community engagement and networking
  • Provide interpretation and translation to clients as required.
  • Maintain client data base and produce statistics and reports as required (ICARE system)
  • Additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Participate in team meetings; staff meetings as required.
  • Prepare monthly reports ensuring target goals are met.
  • Organize and promote programs within a specified budget and guidelines
  • Collaborate with other programs and leadership regarding case management, service delivery and critical issues
  • Prepare materials and training room in advance for workshop activities
  • Utilize classroom management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment for participants with varying learning styles
  • Observe and evaluate participant’s performance and behavior, follow-up with participants to ensure success
  • Complete recruitment and participant assessments / registration where assigned
  • Maintain participant files in accordance with funder and YMCA guidelines
  • Collect data, including outcomes, to inform and contribute to the development of funder and YMCA guidelines
  • Complete all administrative duties such as data entry accurate and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, and values and the YMCA programs and services.

What You'll Need for this Job

  • University Degree in Human Services or a related field 2 years’ experience working with diverse populations, cultural groups, and high needs populations
  • Experience planning and facilitating group workshops
  • Previous experience in settlement services or a related area is an asset
  • Ability to form and maintain relationships in a professional capacity with community and business stakeholders
  • Great organization and time management skills, excellent written and oral communication, and ability to contribute to a team environment
  • Previous experience using a database system is a desirable asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification are a desirable asset
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector and where Child Intervention / Enhanced Security check
