The Opportunity

Since 2000, the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation has been connecting people with nature and protecting nature in Metro Vancouver Regional Parks.

The Executive Director of the Foundation is also the Executive Director of CTS Youth Society. The Foundation and the Society are registered charities with independent boards with a successful 20-year partnership.

Another key long term partner is Metro Vancouver which contributes annual financial and in-kind support.

In recent years both organizations have gone through a process of rebranding, strategic planning and new governance structures.

The incoming Director will have the support of a strong and committed board, and dedicated community partners.

This is a hybrid position, with some flexibility required for weekend and evening events. Offices are located in a beautiful and unique heritage home in Burnaby Lake Regional Park.

About Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation

Led by an independent board of directors, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation (previously known as Pacific Parklands Foundation) is the only registered charity dedicated to supporting Metro Vancouver Regional Parks.

The Foundation raises funds and supports projects and programs with Metro Vancouver and community partners.

About CTS Youth Society

CTS Youth Society (formerly known as Catching The Spirit Youth Society) provides free and accessible community education through environmental stewardship, leadership programs, and public service in Metro Vancouver Regional Parks.

The majority of activity takes place in the summer months with free overnight camping in Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Tynehead Regional Park, and Capilano Regional Park and day camps in Burnaby Lake Regional Park.

About Our Partnership with Metro Vancouver

Through contribution agreements with Metro Vancouver, the Foundation and the Society have a stable source of funding to cover annual operating and administrative costs.

In addition there are opportunities to collaborate with Metro Vancouver’s staff and community partners with unique access to parks.

There is 13,824 ha in 23 regional parks, 2 ecological conservancy areas, 2 regional park reserves and 5 regional greenways in and around the Lower Mainland.

Executive Director

Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors of the Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Foundation, the

Executive Director has the dual role for overseeing all aspects of the MVRP Foundation and

CTS Youth Society operations, finances, and stakeholder relations. This role encompasses

organizational leadership, operational oversight, program management, human resources,

financial stewardship, community and government relations, fundraising, grantmaking and

human resource management.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Donor Stewardship

  • Plan, develop, implement and promote all fundraising initiatives and related budgets
  • Develop, launch, nurture and expand Major Gifts and Foundation Grants Program
  • Develop, manage and evaluate Donor Recognition Programs, activities and stewardship
  • Facilitate and oversee Special Events and Campaigns
  • Develop and oversee a Planned Giving Program
  • Community and Partnerships Relations
  • Promote and maintain the profile of the Foundation and the Society in the community
  • Develop and maintain a robust communication, marketing and social media plan
  • Engage and build key stakeholder relationships with regional partners including Metro Vancouver, and community partners.
  • Submits written reports and presentations to the Regional Parks Board.

Leadership and Board Relations

  • Facilitate Board strategic planning and updates orientation and policy manuals
  • Lead the organization in maintaining its focus on accomplishing the direction set out by the Boards of Directors in a manner that inspires confidence and trust
  • Champion initiatives and projects which will help the Foundation and the Society achieve their objectives
  • Cultivates a strong, supportive, and transparent relationship with the Boards and reports to them on a timely basis regarding strategy, operations, financial performance, project effectiveness and all relevant matters needed to carry out their legal and fiduciary responsibilities to the Foundation and the Society

Operations Management

  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of operations, administration,
  • and facilities.
  • Develops policies and procedures and ensures compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Provides general oversight of records management systems and maintains operational excellence to meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Directs the planning, implementation and assessment of programs and services to meet operational and strategic goals.
  • Develops and oversees risk management policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and mitigate potential risks.

Human Resources Planning and Management :

  • Designs and implements effective employee relations practices to foster a culture of
  • collaboration and high performance.
  • Recruits, develops, and leads a skilled team of employees and volunteers to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Establishes a safe and positive work environment in compliance with legislation and organizational standards.

Financial Planning and Management :

  • Ensures financial sustainability through strategic revenue development and prudent
  • financial management.
  • Active leadership in fund development, including creation of development plans, donor
  • solicitations, grant applications and fundraising campaigns.
  • Develops and manages annual operating plans and budgets, maintaining fiscal prudence and staff lead for the Society and Foundation annual audits.

Requirements

The Executive Director will provide outstanding, innovative and strategic leadership. The

individual will have a proven track record of leading successful fundraising campaigns,

have previous operational and leadership experience, and a charismatic approach to

community relations.

Ideally the following background, experience and personality qualities will be present, although

recognized that no one candidate may possess all :

  • Minimum of five years senior level managerial experience in not-for-profit
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteer Boards and Committees
  • Record of personal success in the fund development field; preferably in a leadership role in securing significant donations from both individuals and corporations;
  • Direct personal experience in major donor cultivation / solicitation;
  • Contemporary knowledge of planned giving programs would be an asset;
  • Fundamental understanding of the role of parks in protecting nature and building resilient communities;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills enabling the Executive Director to be an effective ambassador for the Foundation and the Society;
  • Analytical, organizational and management abilities combined with sound business acumen;
  • Talent for innovation and creativity with skills to move from strategy to action results;
  • High level of professionalism, combined with energy, personal adaptability to chang and an appetite for challenge;
  • University degree and / or fundraising certification will be considered an asset.

Terms & Conditions

  • Terms of Employment : This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • Annual Salary Range : $100,000 $115,000.
  • Type : Hybrid. Must be located in the Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley region.
  • Office location : 6825 Cariboo Road, Burnaby BC
  • Work hours : Monday Friday, some flexibility required for evening and weekend events.
