Major Duties
As a Project Manager, you will take ownership of complex, high‑value automation projects from purchase order through to final installation and customer acceptance. You will be the primary point of contact for customers, guiding them through each phase while ensuring delivery on schedule, within budget, and to the highest technical and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the project team to execute projects on schedule, at or below budget, delivering the contracted scope of work to all applicable codes and standards.
- Act as the key customer contact for assigned projects, maintaining regular verbal and written contact with key customer representatives and documenting all key project events and issues.
- Develop Project Plan, conduct Initial Project Build Plan meeting, oversee project schedule development and identify all critical path activities.
- Lead assessment and identification of project risks, develop and manage Risk Mitigation Plans, and manage budget allocations for ATS labour, materials and risks.
- Prepare accurate financial and resource forecasts, prepare reports as required by ATS Management, and escalates deficiencies to department managers or Program Manager.
- Drive accountability by ensuring all project deliverables are accomplished and supporting documentation is prepared for each project milestone payment. Obtain necessary customer approvals for on‑time payment of invoices.
- Collaborate with department leads to manage project staffing, ensuring adequate technical staff are assigned to all project tasks when needed.
- Develop customer Change Order Requests to manage changes to scope, ensuring formal agreements are in place with customers before changes are acted upon.
- Lead regular team communications meetings, encourage and mentor employees to maintain the highest morale and efficiency.
- Manage projects and project teams in accordance with all applicable ATS procedures.
- Coordinate the post‑project employee assessment process to collect team input on how to improve project and process performance.
- Ensure all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Lead Project Safety, ensure all project activities meet ATS and legal standards, conduct hazard assessments, inspections, and audits as required.
- Participate or lead continuous improvement activities using the ATS Business Model (ABM) tools and processes.
- Travel to customers’ sites for project kick‑offs, status reports, installations, buy‑offs and other check‑in meetings (local within Canada, to the US or internationally).
- Act as an advocate for customers within ATS, ensuring mutual success.
- Deliver maximum customer satisfaction by proactively managing risks, open issues and customer concerns.
- Elevate customer issues to the next level of ATS management when required.
- Partner with ATS account manager to manage the customer and assist Applications Engineering with preparing quotations and customer interaction.
- Attend project status meetings as requested by Program Manager and / or Director, Project Management.
Health & Safety Requirements
Work in conformance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures and comply with legislative requirements.Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout–tagout methods.Report any unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, defects in equipment or protective devices, and any accidents / incidents to the supervisor.Ensure the required protective equipment is used for assigned tasks and attend all required health, safety and environmental training.Assist in investigating accidents / incidents where applicable.Qualifications
Education
Post‑secondary college diploma, engineering degree or equivalent; specializing in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or Controls Engineering.PMP certification is an asset. Willingness to obtain PMP certification within two years of start date is a requirement.Experience
Minimum five years’ experience working with multi‑disciplined project teams, preferably in an automation or systems integration environment.Experience managing a project portfolio in excess of $5 million at any time or individual projects of $3 million or greater with a proven track record of positive leadership.Practical working understanding of factory automation tools and processes (PLC’s, robotics, automated manufacturing, or similar).Preference for those with an excellent manufacturing or process engineering background, superior technical aptitude and proven trouble‑shooting skills.Ability to work effectively with customers under deadlines and pressure‑filled conditions.Demonstrated ability to lead others and complete related management tasks on time.Why Join ATS Industrial Automation?
