DISTRICT RESOURCE TEACHER - INCLUSIVE LEARNING

Richmond School District operates 37 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities.

The district enrolls approximately 22,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

We currently have 3 full-time District Resource Teacher - Inclusive Learning positions available for September 1, 2024.

As a member of the Inclusion Support Team (IST), the District Resource Teacher will provide collaboration, consultation, and direct support to school teams (Teachers, Education Assistants, Administrators) to support students with disabilities and diverse abilities who have significant learning and / or behaviour challenges.

The Inclusion Support Team (IST) is part of the Learning Services Department and is responsible for designing and implementing professional learning opportunities related to inclusive learning for teachers and education assistants at the district and school level.

This position also requires ongoing communication and the development of relationships within the school district, as well as with outside organizations, to implement projects and therefore requires flexibility in working hours with meetings occurring out of school time.

All positions within Learning Services engage in supporting the District’s Strategic Plan, specifically, Strategic Priority 1 : Inspired Learners and Strategic Priority 2 : Equity and Inclusion.

Other duties and responsibilities may also be assigned as necessary in response to the changing needs of the district.

The successful candidate will :

have proven competencies in instructional approaches such as co-teaching, modeling and planning for instruction with inclusion of all learners

be expected to work collaboratively with administrators, classroom teachers, resource teachers, education assistants, district staff and community partners

be responsible for designing and implementing professional development opportunities for teachers and education assistants, at the District and school level

have experience and knowledge in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans, Functional Behavior Assessments, Behaviour Support Plans and Employee Safe Work Plans.

support schools in the transition of students from preschool into Kindergarten, grade 7 to high school and high school to adulthood

demonstrate the skills of planning, developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate and effective individualized educational programs which are based on B.

C.’s Curriculum for students with disabilities and diverse abilities with significant learning and / or behaviour challenges

demonstrate experience in supporting school teams

demonstrate an understanding of the RTI model, universal design for learning, and differentiated instructional models of support

demonstrate competencies in collaboration, facilitation, and supporting district and staff development initiatives

demonstrate exceptional organization, time management, communication, and prioritizing skills

Qualifications

Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate

Fully qualified and experienced Learning Resource teacher, with demonstrated competencies in addressing a wide range of student needs including students with complex developmental and behavioral challenges.

Graduate Level course work in Special Education and recent Resource teacher experience is an asset.
