Water Resources Consultant – Senior Level – GoldSim Focus (Hybrid / Remote)

Barr is seeking a  senior water resourcesconsultant withexpertiseinwater-balancemodelingandcontaminant-transportanalysis—particularly usingGoldSim—todeliver both practical and innovativesolutionstocomplex environmental challenges.In thisrole,you willcollaborate withmultidisciplinary teamstodevelop and applywater-balancemodels usingGoldSimto support project planning andoperationalimprovements. You will also performtechnicalanalysestohelpclientsoptimizewater management strategiesand enhance environmental resilience.

Project workisanticipatedtoincludesite-wide and basin-scale water-balance modeling,operational and scenario planning for mining and industrialwater management,hydrologic evaluations,climate risk assessment,contaminant-transport analysis,and water-resilience planning.Project work may also includehydrologic analysisfor stormwater planning and flood control;hydraulic analysisfor thedesignand operationofdams, tailings basins, and otherwater controlstructures; andwater-qualityassessments to support compliance andenvironmental stewardship.

A successful person in this role will work with and / or oversee diverse teams of engineers and scientists, integrating importantfacetsof each disciplineinto water balance models.They mustpossessa flexible working style and be willing to occasionallymodifytheir schedule to meet deadlines and client needs. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are essential.

Your impact – key responsibilities

Technical knowledge : expertiseand experience inGoldSimmodeling for water management, including water balance development, operational forecasting, sensitivity and uncertainty evaluation to support risk assessments, water-management planning and design, and regulatory compliance, along with the ability to translate complex modeling outcomes into practical, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical audiences. Also perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and / or water quality analyses and studies, develop conceptual models, and perform QA / QC.

Project and task management :  assistwith planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients.Perform QA / QC andprovidementoringandtechnical guidance to junior staff.

About the opportunity

Compensation : anticipatedrange of $130,000–$170,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team andindividual performance.This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Hybrid : ahybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Calgary office.

R emote : aremote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, local regulations, and Barr’s needs.

About you –requiredcore competencies

Education : bachelor’s degree in civil,environmental, or miningengineeringwith emphasis onmine water managementor a bachelor’s degree inmath, science, orother related discipline.

Experience : at least10years ofappliedexperienceperforming water balances andwater-resources analysis and / or modeling.

Experience developing water-balance models, including spreadsheet-based and advanced simulation tools, particularlyGoldSim.

Statistical analysis of hydrologicaland other environmentaldata.

Developed skills in probabilistic analysis or modeling, uncertainty analyses, and / or Monte Carlo analyses to inform and complete risk assessments.

Understanding ofvarious flowcontrolstructures (pumps, weirs, drop structures, etc.), their operation, and effective methods torepresentthem in water-balance models.

Understanding ofmineoperationsand changes topits, dams, andprocessingover timeas it relates to water management.

An understanding of chemical processes (oxidation and contaminant release, solubility limits, kinetic reactions, mixing, treatment processes, etc.) and effective methods for modeling fate and transport of contaminants.

Software : knowledge ofGoldSimas well as othercommonly used hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software,andGIS software.

Communication : strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients.

Driver’s license : possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship from Barr Ltd., now or in the future.

Helpfuladditionalexperience (notrequired)

Master's degree or PhD incivil,environmental, or miningengineering,with emphasis onmine water management, or master’sdegreeor PhD in math, science, or other related discipline.

Licenses / certifications : P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA.

Experience advising clients on mine-water management strategies andalternativesanalysis anda track recordof building and sustaining client relationships.

Familiarity with publicly available data sets to support hydrologic analyses such as USGS gage data in the USA, hydrometric stations in Canada, climate data from NWS, Environment Canada, or other gages.

Experience working with software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSWMM / PCSWMM, HSPF,HydroCAD, MS Excel, or the MIKE Suite of tools.

Experience with design of surface water impoundments, such as process ponds, water supply dams, and reservoirs.

Examples of providing water resourcesanalysisto support permitting and compliance.

Interacting with, coordinating with, and potentially leading or managing multidisciplinary project teams.

Performing business developmentthrough technical means, such as giving conference presentations or writing proposals.
