AtkinsRéalis’s Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager, Climate Strategy and Adaptation to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals.

The Senior Project Manager, Climate Strategy and Adaptation will ensure the successful delivery of sustainable strategies to support our clients’ transition to a low carbon economy and manage the potential climate change risk promoting adaptation strategies in the minerals and metals industry.

With a scientific and evidence-based approach, the successful candidate will contribute to developing corporate strategies, tools, practices, and processes that incorporate leading approaches to climate action along all the stages of the mining lifecycle.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M ESG & Sustainability team located in any of the major cities of Canada : Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto; including Kelowna.

Your role within the team :

  • Manage climate change risk, adaptation strategies, decarbonization strategies, and energy transition projects in the minerals and metals industry, from proposal generation to the delivery of quality reports on time and budget.
  • Lead the Climate Strategy and Adaptation project delivery team, and communicate clear objectives for the team to understand and achieve project goals in context of the client’s requirements.
  • Develop tools, methodologies and procedures for physical and transitional climate-related risk assessment to assist clients’ needs and optimization opportunities for a sustainability strategy and performance.
  • Facilitate the climate-related hazard, vulnerability and exposure identification process, and link the identified adaptation opportunities to strategic organizational goals (e.g.; CapEx analysis).,
  • Develop recommendations for decarbonization strategies and energy efficiency for current operations and mine design in the minerals and metals industry.
  • Manage and develop climate-related disclosure reports aligned with main leading frameworks (e.g., TCFD, ISSB, CSRD, SASB, GRI, IFC, MAC-TSM, Copper Mark), enhancing business resiliency and long-term success.
  • Promote business development activities with current and potential clients, fostering innovation and emerging technologies, and getting involved in relevant conferences in the minerals and metals industry.

The ideal candidate :

10+ years of progressive experience in climate change risk, adaptation strategies, decarbonization, lifecycle assessment, and optimization process.

Strategic understanding of related standards, and best practices relevant to the mining industry. Desirable experience with engineering consulting environment.

  • Master’s degree in Sustainability Management, Environment Science, Engineering, Climate Change, Climate Economics, Geography or related discipline.
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills and abilities by succinctly conveying recommendations, ideas, and insights in reports, presentation materials, client proposals, and other written communications.

Fluent in English; Spanish or Portuguese proficiency would be an asset.

  • Relevant professional designation (B.C. R.P.Bio., P.Chem., P.Geo., P.Eng., or P.Ag.) or eligibility status in Canada. Knowledge of relevant federal regulations and standards governing mining operations in Canada and United States would be an asset
  • Previous experience developing and embedding sustainability strategies within large complex businesses : e.g., along the different stages of the mine lifecycle.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $116,600 - $160,300 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia).

Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
