Design & Validation Engineer R&D
Position Summary :
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will be responsible for supporting engineering functions from design, development and implementation of procedures for testing systems and equipment.
This is a 100% on-site role located in Guelph, ON.
Performance Expectations :
- Evaluate static and dynamic stability of Skyjack equipment through engineering calculations and testing in accordance with applicable Standards.
- Develop testing equipment and test plans required for testing and validation
- Develop and carry out validation and test procedures on various components and subsystems presently on Skyjack equipment with an emphasis on providing ideas and solutions to improve reliability and performance.
- Document testing program findings through writing of comprehensive test reports and present findings to management and / or colleagues as required
- Develop technical documentation required for formal certification.
- Maintaining and updating test and data acquisition equipment inventory to ensure the most efficient validation procedures are utilized
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations for improvement.
- Apply a wide variety of established or modified engineering methods or techniques with considerable independence of action.
- Other duties as assigned
Credentials :
- University or college degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or any other relevant engineering-based programs.
- Preference will be given to candidates registered or working towards their designation.
Desired Characteristics :
- Must have hands on experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic testing and development of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic test plans.
- Experience as a Test & Validation Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Design Engineer in a mobile / heavy equipment (or related) manufacturing environment.
- Engineering calculation and testing experience essential.
- Design experience and 3D modeling experience essential.
- Strong trouble shooting attributes / skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with a cross functional technical team as well as with manufacturing personnel.
- Ability to work effectively in groups and individually with minimal supervision.
- Confident working with instrumentation and measurement tools.
- Working knowledge of PLC’s or other programmable devises an asset.
- Experience with data acquisition hardware / software (LabVIEW, Somat) an asset.
- Experience with engineering software (MathCad, FEA, CFD, Automation Studio, and MATLAB Simulink) an asset.
- Troubleshooting of various control circuits, electrical and hydraulic systems an asset.
