Job Summary
The Manager is responsible for leading a team of Program Officers and Program Assistants and is accountable for the effective and efficient delivery of the Agency’s programs.
The Manager provides policy, procedural and in some cases budgetary direction to the team and to the committees associated with the programs managed by the team.
The Manager represents and promotes the Agency in interactions with a wide audience that may include national or international partners, university researchers, students and administrators, scientific societies, and a variety of partners from the private, not-for-profit or public sectors (including government departments at all levels.
The Manager will lead and conduct analysis of data, reports and complex cases. The Manager will make funding and budgetary recommendations or decisions within their delegated authority.
The Manager will lead working groups, and projects, and may participate in or lead corporate working groups. The Manager will make decisions of varying complexity related to program design or operations.
The Manager will provide advice to senior management regarding complex program policies and procedures and for the development of new initiatives.
Statement of Qualifications
Education
A bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.
A degree in natural sciences or engineering would be considered an asset.
Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards
Experience
Experience in a university, college, industry or government research and development setting and / or in the administration of research and / or award funding programs
Experience in managing human resources
Experience in managing multiple priorities, projects and deadlines
Experience in policy development and analysis
Assets :
Experience in working with internal and external stakeholders developing, negotiating and monitoring joint programs and / or solutions
Experience with industrial or government Research & Development
Experience in the application of equity, diversity and inclusion or gender-based analysis+ principles to given environments
Experience in managing financial resources
Experience in developing and implementing initiatives protecting, managing and improving data stewardship and governance
Knowledge
Knowledge of the mandate and structure of NSERC and the associated policies and practices
Knowledge of the issues associated with research and the application of research results in industry, government and academia
Knowledge of the issues affecting the research community, including an understanding of processes and trends in science and engineering research and / or post-secondary education in Canada
Knowledge of the structure of research and / or scholarship funding in Canada
