Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Details

Department: Machine Shop. Reports to: Operations Manager. Location: Metal Business Unit. Pay Rule: Hourly.

Job Summary

Provide supervision and leadership to Holder Department employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Enforce safety requirements and maintain a hygienic work environment.
• Ensure that all quality requirements are met.
• Communicate with relevant other departments to ensure on-time production schedule fulfillment.
• Manage given department production requirements by setting priorities, coordinating resources.
• Determine and manage subcontract machining needs.
• Work with maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and reliability.
• Train, develop, and coach all holder department employees with essential skills.
• Solve problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Manage department tooling and consumable supplies, interact with vendors.
• Provide machining time estimates for new products to sales.
• Comply with company policies and procedures.
• Must be available to work overtime.
• Will be required to support after-hours emergency orders when required.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

• A college diploma in machining and/or 429A Certificate of Qualification is preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in a machining environment.
• Experience with manual mills, engine lathes, saws, and associated tooling.
• Experience with CNC mills and lathes and associated tooling.
• Proficient with using a PC.
• Experience with Microsoft Office is an asset.
• Experience with Microsoft Navision Dynamics or other ERP systems is an asset.
• Strong time management and decision skills.
• Strong effective communication skills.
• Able to learn quickly and work independently.

Working Conditions

Exposure to a manufacturing environment, which may include loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

Physical Requirements

• PPEs: Steel toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses, cut gloves.
• Walking 2+ hours.
• Standing 5+ hours.
• Sitting 2+ hours.
• Lifting 25+ lbs.
• Stair climbing Occasional.
• Ladder Climbing Occasional.
• Travel to work: Ability to drive a car or use public transit.
• Bending and Twisting: Full torso and upper body repetitive movement.
• Dexterity: Must have use of both hands (gripping, pinching, and fine work).
• Push/Pull +20 lbs.
• Vibration: hand, arms shoulders / upper body (Deburr, pedestal grinder).
• Vision: Full & clear.
