Our department is dedicated todriving excellence and innovation in Industry Solutions, and we are seeking ahighly motivated Senior Financial Coordinator (SFC) to join our team.
Reporting to the Lead, FinancialAdministration Support Team, the Senior Financial Coordinator (SFC) will play acrucial role in supporting the applied research activities within IndustrySolutions.
The SFC will lead, coordinate, track, manage, and finalizeadministrative details, reporting, and financial management of grants to ensurethe successful growth of Industry Solutions.
The ideal candidate will be a motivatedand driven administrative professional with a high attention to detail,well-developed time management skills, and a passion for maintaining organizedwork environments.
Key Responsibilities :
Financial Management :
- Establishes a comprehensive system forefficiently managing and advising on the financial aspects of applied research,encompassing budgeting, forecasting, expense tracking, invoicing, capitalmanagement, and financial reporting.
- Provides strategic guidance andrecommendations for departmental budgets, assisting in risk management andoptimizing resource allocation.
- Ensures accuracy and diligence byreviewing and approving financial reports, expense claims, PCardreconciliations, and job adjustment forms.
- Assists the Lead in forecasting andbudgeting activities, and evaluates departmental needs for FAST.
- Facilitate training sessions onfinancial policies, procedures, and processes, and provide support as needed.
- Monitor key financial data andanalytics for Applied Research, promptly alerting the Lead, FAST, of anypotential issues.
- Develops financial reports and ad hocreports to support Sr. Leadership in strategic decision-making, which couldinclude variance analysis, forecasting and identifying potential issues
Strategic Planning and Process Improvement :
- Actively engages in departmentalstrategic planning, aligning team objectives with broader organizational goals.
- Identifies opportunities for enhancingdepartmental efficiency and effectiveness through process improvements,internal control improvements and technological advancements.
- Collaborates with various departmentsto synchronize budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring alignment withstrategic initiatives.
Leadership and Mentoring :
- Supervises and mentors a team offinancial administrators and students, fostering their growth and enhancingtheir performance.
- Works with all FAS team members toestablish clear goals and expectations, providing regular feedback to driveprogress.
Collaboration and Support :
- Works with financial coordinators andproject leads of the centers to develop a system for reviewing researchexpenditure compliance.
- Provides guidance to ensure adherenceto funding guidelines, instilling confidence in the Lead regarding compliancewith funders' expectations.
- Offers administrative support to theLead, FAST, and Research Centres to facilitate smooth operations and effective communication.
- Collaborates with internal and externalstakeholders to gather necessary documentation for grant applications andreporting.
- Represents the Financial AdministrationSupport Team in interdepartmental discussions and engages with partners tocoordinate tasks as needed.
Special Projects and other tasks asrequired.
Skills & Abilities :
- Strong analytical skills andproficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Excellent communication skills, withthe ability to effectively communicate complex financial information tonon-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to thrive in afast-paced, dynamic environment, with a high degree of adaptability andresilience.
Qualifications :
- Accounting, Finance, or Business Degreepreferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will beconsidered.
- 5+ years of related experience withextensive and proven financial experience.
- Experience with research grantfacilitation and management would be a strong asset
- Project management and budgetpreparation / support experience required
- Advanced Excel skills required;experience with Microsoft Power Apps and PeopleSoft Finance would be an asset
Remuneration : $79,795.82- $105,715.48 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
