Robert Half is searching for an efficient Senior Financial Accountant for a well-known, expanding organization in the Construction industry. This permanent role is in the Edmonton, Alberta, area.

The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining and growing the core accounting functions within the business. The role is responsible for providing timely, accurate and relevant financial information. This role will support the continual improvement of current financial structure and processes. The Senior Financial Accountant will be eager to learn and a self-starter, with the opportunity to be involved in different areas of the business and special projects. Key aspects of this role include cash flow management, internal control coordination, capital asset review, and integration of subsidiaries.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statement packages to be submitted to management and the parent company
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close process and meet scheduled deadlines
  • Participate in the research and implementation of appropriate accounting standards, policies, and procedures
  • Communicate and exchange information with all levels and departments within the organization and subsidiaries
  • Assist with integration of subsidiaries
  • Monthly maintenance and review of capital asset subledger, and analysis to capital budget
  • Partner with Fleet, Operations, and other functions to provide timely, accurate, complete and relevant financial information to ensure accurate forecasts and support other financial planning and analysis initiatives
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors as required
  • Prepare monthly regulatory filings in accordance with provincial and federal regulations
  • Communicate and exchange information with all levels and departments within the organization and subsidiaries
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance with IFRS
  • Provide support with the ERP systems of the organization
  • Additional duties as necessary

Job Requirements : Requirements

  • Minimum 2-4 years accounting experience
  • CPA designation, or pursuing professional accounting designation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ambitious self-starter who can improve processes and controls
  • Ability to multi-task and meet several deadlines simultaneously
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Familiar with ERP systems, experience with Sage is an asset
  • Analytical, detail oriented
