Correctional Service Canada (CSC) has a wide variety of professions and work locations with unique challenges and opportunities.

It offers dynamic and interesting careers in over 30 professions, including corrections, health care and administration.

As part of the CSC team, your job is to provide a safe, secure and positive environment for offenders, staff and citizens.

Working for CSC often means working with offenders. Some of the positions are located exclusively within a correctional institution while other positions (such as administrative positions) can be found in all of our locations.

HEALTH SERVICES

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the largest employer of nurses and psychologists in the federal government. CSC provides appropriate interventions to address issues related to physical health, mental health and addiction.

INDIGENOUS INITIATIVES

Indigenous offenders are overrepresented in federal custody. CSC provides timely access to effective, culturally appropriate interventions for them.

Indigenous-specific positions are those that help Indigenous offenders reconnect with the values, traditions and beliefs of their Indigenous communities.

Work environment

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts.

CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

INSTITUTIONS

In the Atlantic Region, CSC is responsible for the management of four institutions (three for men and one for women) and the Shepody Healing Centre.

ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

A maximum security facility located in the rural community of Renous, New Brunswick, 30 kilometres from the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick and 10 kilometres from the Village of Blackville, New Brunswick.

DORCHESTER PENITENTIARY

A multi-level security male facility located in the community of Dorchester, New Brunswick, next to the Village of Memramcook.

SPRINGHILL INSTITUTION

A medium security male facility located on the southwestern edge of Springhill, Nova Scotia, approximately 95 kilometres from Moncton, New Brunswick.

NOVA INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN

A multi-level facility located in the Town of Truro, Nova Scotia, it is one of six federal facilities for women across Canada.

Located in a residential area, it is approximately 83 kilometres from the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

SHEPODY HEALING CENTRE Shepody Healing Centre is one of the five Regional Treatment Centres in CSC. SHC is an accredited facility, classified as a multi-level security and it's co-located with Dorchester Penitentiary.

A five-bed Regional Hospital is located there as well. The SHC deals with inmates who have various mental health needs. This includes those suffering from mental disorders and personality disorders.

COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS

Most of Canada's federal offenders serve part of their sentences in institutions. The rest of their time is served in the community, where they must follow certain conditions and are supervised by Parole Officers.

Community corrections consists of gradually releasing offenders, ensuring that they do not present a threat to anyone and helping them adjust to life in the community.

In the Atlantic Region, several parole offices and community correctional centres are responsible for community corrections and they are located in the following locations :

NEW BRUNSWICK

New Brunswick's various parole offices are located in Moncton, Bathurst, Fredericton, Saint John and Edmundston. The Parrtown Community Correctional Centre is located in Saint John, NB.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

There is a parole office located in Charlottetown, PEI.

NOVA SCOTIA

Nova Scotia's various parole offices are located in Dartmouth, Halifax, Kentville, Yarmouth, Truro and Sydney. The Jamieson Community Correctional Centre is located in Dartmouth, N.S.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Newfoundland's various parole offices are located in St. John’s, Grand Falls-Windsor, Cornerbrook, Stephenville and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The St. John’s Community Correctional Centre is located in St. John's, NL.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES - REGIONAL HEADQUARTER ATLANTIC REGION

A large proportion of the administrative positions are located at the Regional Headquarters which is located in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Each position has a linguistic profile depending on location and duties. For the positions to be staffed, the majority have an English essential linguistic profile.

Some positions would require various levels of bilingualism in English and French.

Each position also has educational requirements. Some positions require a minimum of a high school diploma or a combination of education, training and / or experience, while others may require post-secondary education.
