The City of Penticton's Utilities Department is in search of a highly motivated and energetic individual for the permanent, full-time (40 hours per week) position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III .
The City of Penticton Utilities Division keeps our community safe by providing clean, safe, drinking water, a reliable sanitary sewer system and storm water drainage to help prevent flooding. The division consists of the Water Treatment Plant, Utilities Distribution & Collections Branch and Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWWTP).
The AWWTP is an industry leading Level IV biological nutrient removal plant that protects public health and the environment by treating wastewater to a high level. The wastewater comes from residences, schools, hospitals, businesses and industrial properties via separated sewers and trucked deliveries of septic system wastewater from the South Okanagan Regional District area.
Reporting to the WWTP Supervisor and under the general direction of the WWTP Foreman, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III is responsible and accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the City's wastewater treatment, liftstations, and reclaimed water systems.
Key Responsibilities :
- Support the overall operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, liftstations, and reclaimed water systems.
- Assist in overseeing safety related issues (contractor orientation, PPE, evacuation procedures etc.) and identify training as required.
- Assist in the creation of operational reports for Provincial and Federal governments and consultants, under direction of Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor and Wastewater Treatment Plant Foreman.
- Leadership of project teams as assigned. Provide guidance and support for Level I and II Operators.
- Maintaining inventory of chemicals and supplies as needed for operations and purchase equipment as requested.
- Monitor systems using SCADA, observation of gauges, meters, and control panels to establish accurate system requirements and makes adjustments to the plant accordingly, maintaining control of RAS, WAS, Internal Recycle, etc. flow rates.
- Visually inspect plant and all equipment daily to ensure proper functioning, trouble shoots sophisticated control systems and takes corrective action when required.
- Maintain and calibrate instruments and analyzers for measuring dissolved oxygen, chlorine, turbidity, pH, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, etc.
- Investigate system alarms on callouts as required and makes repairs or adjustments.
- Compile data, prepare electronic reports, and complete logs detailing plant operation, ensuring accurate completion of operational, maintenance, laboratory, and other records necessary to ensure all approval and minimum plant process requirements are met.
- Conduct tours of the Wastewater Treatment Plant as required.
- Operate equipment such as chemical feed systems, dissolved air floatation, centrifuges, etc. that require user input to run properly.
- Perform sampling and laboratory tests of plant treatment processes to ensure compliance to standards, and initiates adjustments to plant operations in response to test results.
- Assist maintenance staff when required, perform repairs or preventative maintenance as assigned.
- Ensure plant cleanliness and that proper lockout procedure is followed.
- Act as the Wastewater Treatment Foreman in their absence, as required.

36.93 - $40.71 per hour (Pay Grade 13, CUPE)
Premiums :
Wastewater premium - $0.35 per hour, EOCP Premium $0-$2.00 per hour dependent on certification level
