As the Community Economic Development Coordinator, you will play a key role in promoting and implementing local and regional economic development initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Community Services, your responsibilities will include :
- Economic Development : Lead regional planning, develop strategies, and build
- partnerships to drive business growth, tourism, and community prosperity.
- Community Engagement : Work closely with stakeholders, providing support, collecting feedback, and responding to inquiries from businesses and investors.
- Recreation and Donations Management : Coordinate municipal recreation funding and manage donation submissions in alignment with MDT policies.
- Executive Support : Provide research, administrative assistance, and support for departmental policies, reports, and committees

Key Work Activities :
Economic Development (Regional and Local Approach)
Promotes and markets the MDT to encourage business development and increase visitation to the region.Participates in regional economic planning activities.Conducts research and analysis in support of local business, entrepreneur development and other economic initiatives.Liaises with local businesses and relevant stakeholders for the purpose of delivering economic development support services and information as well as obtaining information and feedback from businesses and the community.Initiates discussions with relevant stakeholders regarding economic development initiatives.Develops new strategies to further economic, tourism and community economic goals and manage established programs.Responds to requests for information and investment / expansion inquiries and prepares responses in a timely manner.Coordinates and responds to travel media inquiries.Maintains accurate and relevant business and community profile information for businesses and economic development opportunities.Works to actively promote and celebrate local businesses and organizations to encourage shopping local and business retention within MDT.Develops partnerships within the region to develop and promote opportunities for economic development.Works with regional partners on established projects and regional initiatives.Researches and applies for relevant funding applicable to MDT economic development initiatives.Works collaboratively with regional partners, municipalities, business, and community in achieving the established goals of the region.Works with Communication Specialist to develop strategies and produce content that engages the community, including website management, social media posts and other relevant communication.Attends meetings relevant to MDT on community economic development, marketing, tourism and business development locally and regionally.Acts as point of contact for business, organizations, and investors inquires.Implement approved policies, plans, and programs for the Economic Development functions of the municipality.Act as a project lead on more complex initiatives and applications.Undertake initiatives related to continuous improvement.Executive Support – Community Services
Provides general research and support for the Director of Community Services.Assistance with preparation of reports, recommendations and materials for various presentations, drafts policies and bylaws relevant to Community services.Provide administrative support for relevant Community Services committees that include Vauxhall Regional Fire Authority (RFA) and Barnwell Fire Partnership Committee (BFPC) in the form of agenda and minutes development.Recreation and Culture
Coordination of municipal recreation partnerships and funding in alignment with the OperationalGrants for Recreation Boards, Towns and Villages policy.Liaises with recreation partners providing information, capturing partner program plans and initiatives.Coordinate recreation grant funding annual submissions from partners, provide recommendation to the Director of Community Services in alignment with current policy and complete correspondence.Provide Operational Grants for Recreation Boards, Towns and Villages policy feedback and recommendations to the Director of Community Services.Donations to Community Organizations
Coordination of municipal donations in alignment with the Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities policy.Liaises with community groups providing information related to policy and procedure.Coordinate donations submissions from organizations, provide recommendations to the Director of Community Services in alignment with current policy and complete correspondence.Provide Donations to Community Organizations, Programs, Events & Activities policy feedback andrecommendations to the Director of Community Services.General
Assist public and ratepayers with inquiries and concerns.Maintains department administrative records including contracts and agreements, as per record management (RMS) requirements.Support department related to roles and participation in Emergency Management and Exercises.Actively participate in the municipality’s Health and Safety Program and assist in constructing a positive culture where health and safety are prioritized.Any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director of Community Services.Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements :
A combination of education and / or experience related to this position may be considered.Diploma in Business Administration or a related field, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience is preferred.Two (2) years experience working within the Economic Development Industry is a preferred.Industry Certificate in Economic Development is preferred.Experience in business administration is preferred.Experience working in a municipal government administration setting is preferred.Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.Advanced skills with computers and systems, database management, and Microsoft Office Suite.Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate, or willingness to attain.Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including Criminal Record Check.A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s AbstractBenefits
