Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for the visionaries, the change-makers, the self-starters who are seeking more from their career. Change begins with the small decisions we make, each day, to support each other and strive to create inspiring incredible educational experiences for all students, no matter where they are or how they learn. In choosing a career with Yorkville University, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries, flex your creativity and inspire positive change for so many people.

Our core values put the student experience at the center of what we do, reflecting who we are and aspire to be. If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Curriculum Design, we are hiring a Curriculum Design Specialist. You will play a crucial role in developing and renewing academic programs, instructional and assessment practices, and learning materials. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, course developers, and faculty to support the design and development of face-to-face, online, and blended curricula for a growing suite of programs across a variety of credential types, disciplines, and audiences.

This is a hybrid role, working 2-3 days a month at our Fredericton campus.

Who you are

You are a quick learner, driven to do more, learn continuously, and share knowledge. You excel at project management and relationship building. Whether from ongoing academic pursuits or direct work experience, you understand post-secondary educational standards and best practices. You want to channel your writing, process building, and communication skills into designing a curriculum that leverages innovative teaching and learning approaches.

What's in it for you

Impact. Join us during an exciting growth period in which we will launch several new programs. You want to join a place that inspires change, takes action, and continuously innovates. You will be part of a newer team committed to curriculum design, working with different teams to impact student learning.

Belonging. You will be part of a collaborative team that shares knowledge and best practices, always working together and never in a silo. The Curriculum Design team is focused on living the Yorkville core values, embracing purposeful curiosity, looking for ways to improve and enhance work, building inclusive communities, encouraging respectful feedback, and supporting each other through a continuous learning and improvement culture.

Professional development. Yorkville is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative university disrupting traditional post-secondary education. You will have the chance to participate in regular opportunities to expand your expertise.

As our new Curriculum Design Specialist, you will :

  • Collaborate. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, course developers, and faculty to understand the goals of new and existing academic programs. You will analyze and translate the program goals into comprehensive curricula, including but not limited to learning outcomes, assessments, and content.
  • Develop. You will integrate innovative and effective instructional strategies, technologies, and resources into curriculum design to enhance student engagement and achievement.
  • Evaluate. You will review curricular needs and recommend instructional and assessment strategies that account for regulatory requirements, align with program and course learning outcomes, and model accessible, authentic, and culturally responsive pedagogies.
  • Continuously improve. You will stay current with educational research, pedagogical trends, and advancements in curriculum design and share relevant insights with the team. You will analyze existing curricula alongside available data, including student and stakeholder feedback, to identify areas for improvement or revision to address changing educational needs.
  • Communicate. You will track and report on progress on curriculum development and renewal projects and proactively identify and communicate risks to the timely completion of curriculum projects. You will meet and share knowledge regularly with your manager, colleagues, and collaborators to support transparency in the curriculum and instructional design process.

You have :

  • The experience. You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree. You have proven experience as a curriculum designer, instructional designer, or content developer. Or, you have transferrable expertise and a commitment to growing your skills. You bring a creative and innovative mindset with a passion for knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning. You may be familiar with adult education principles and practices through experience in public or private sector training and delivery or education and teaching at different levels.
  • The project management skills. You are driven and have outstanding self-management skills. You can set and track project deliverables, maintain open communication with cross-functional teams, elicit work products from those around you, and meet your deadlines. You can prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have exceptional oral and written communication skills. You can build trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. You prioritize taking and fostering a collaborative and inclusive approach to curriculum design and can engage program leadership, subject matter experts, and faculty to understand evolving needs and requirements. You are a creative problem solver, able to balance and shift priorities, anticipate and respond to issues, and manage change effectively.
  • The technical skills. You are highly proficient with the MS Office suite, including Teams. You are comfortable analyzing, aggregating, and interpreting data and can create presentations to show your findings and inform decisions. You are familiar with using AI technology, educational tools, and learning management systems (LMS).
  • The nice-to-have but optional skills. You have in-depth knowledge of curriculum development principles, educational standards, and instructional design models. You are familiar with relevant provincial, federal, and international accessibility standards, such as AODA and WCAG. You have a strong understanding of pedagogical theories, teaching methodologies, and assessment practices.
  • Why work at Yorkville University?

  • An atmosphere that successfully blends an entrepreneurial culture with education. We value innovation and continuously look towards expanding our programming, working with the latest research, tools and solutions. As a private school with government approval of our offerings, we have the opportunity to do more, stay current and be future-forward.
  • The chance to accelerate your career and disrupt education by responding to the needs you see and purposefully challenging the status quo. Everything we do here is about delighting and engaging our employees - and ultimately our students- from mentorship to teaching, from creative outlets to analytical ones.
  • A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.
  • The opportunity to grow with access to free courses, certifications and programs - right up to our Masters' offerings.
  • An appreciation for the insights and skills you bring to work with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, including a wide breadth of wellness services and a work-life balance.
  • Join us

We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we are looking for, express your interest.

What you can expect from our hiring process :

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor to discuss your interest in the role and your experience.
  • A panel interview with the Director, Curriculum Design, Senior Manager, Curriculum Design, and Senior Manager, Program Design. This is an opportunity to share how your experience aligns with the team’s needs, and your approach to project management and relationship building.
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion are a critical component of life at Yorkville University and Toronto Film School and we are committed to making these values an integral part of our culture. We encourage applications from all qualified applicants, including women, persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQ2SIA+) community and other equity-seeking groups.

Yorkville University is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act ('AODA'). If you require accommodation for disability, please notify Human Resources at 1-877-429-4029.
