Description :
The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Vice Chair, Quality and Innovation. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment in the Department of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date will be January 1, 2025.
The Vice Chair Quality and Innovation oversees a portfolio that includes approximately 90 faculty members in the Clinicians in Quality & Innovation (CQI) job description as well as generally directing and advancing the Department’s efforts to develop and implement innovations aimed at improving healthcare quality.
The Vice-Chair, Quality and Innovation is a senior leadership position within the Department of Medicine, reporting directly to the Chair of Medicine. The successful candidate in this pivotal role will champion the support and development of our CQI faculty across various divisions and sites, fostering a robust sense of community and ensuring that mentorship is available for faculty at all career stages.
As a leader in equity, diversity, Indigeneity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIIA), the successful candidate will foster an environment that values diverse perspectives and community-building, will support recruitment of CQI faculty, and will act as a sponsor to find partnerships and resources that will enhance recognition and resources for CQIs. The Ideal candidate will take the lead in engaging key stakeholders on initiatives related to strategic improvement of health systems.
The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in North America, with over 900 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 sub-specialty divisions located across 6 fully affiliated hospitals, 6 community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. The Department of Medicine is a research powerhouse with $185+ million annual research funding (2018). Applicants must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in internal medicine or a medicine subspecialty by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure in Ontario. The preferred hospital site for the Vice Chair, Quality and Innovation, will be negotiated with the successful candidate and be one of the University’s fully-affiliated sites : Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, Sinai Health System – Mt Sinai Hospital, Unity Health Toronto - St. Michael’s Hospital, or Women’s College Hospital. The Vice Chair, Quality and Innovation, will receive administrative support and an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine based on 1 ½ days per week.
