Job description

Purpose :

The York University School of Continuing Studies is a diverse community of learning united by a shared sense of purpose : Achieving personal and professional growth in a rapidly changing career and educational ability to offer accelerated, accessible, and innovative programs that prepare our students to adapt and lead in response to this change has made us the fastest-growing school in Canada. The School is home to the international-award-winning York University English Language Institute, one of the largest language institutes in North America. Our students come from around the world to pursue English-language proficiency and achieve their academic goals. Our professional programs also attract students from around the world. Codesigned and delivered by senior industry leaders, our professional programs feature experiential learning methods that help students develop career-specific technical skills and robust cross-functional position reports to the Executive Director, Operations & Administration in the School of Continuing Studies. The Special Projects Manager (SPM) is expected to provide guidance and coordination to several large-scale technology projects and to the School's project to construct a new building. The SPM is expected to provide professional project management and analytical expertise in support of all phases of both projects, including oversight, coordination, implementation, execution, control and successful completion consistent with the organizational and business goals of the School of Continuing Studies.

Education :

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (, Business, Computer Science, Engineering)

PMP designation (or similar project management accreditation)

Current and applied knowledge in project management methodology, , PMBOK, systems development lifecycle frameworks and quality assurance, , systems and user acceptance testing techniques.

Experience :

Proven ability to oversee the overall development and implementation of large-scale IT projects, including leading project teams both in a physical and virtual team environment.

Skills :

Proven IT project management skills including : research, planning and organizational skills, budget preparation.

Knowledge and understanding of ERP, CRM, e-business, open source and custom applications.

Ability to identify and make recommendations for additional resources and take all steps to ensure that appropriate resource levels are maintained throughout the project life cycle.

Ability to work under pressure of high volume and expectation, while meeting multiple deadlines for multiple projects. Strong service orientation coupled with an ability to recognize and assess the operational significance of a problem, control / mitigate the risk and set priorities accordingly.

Exceptional analytical, evaluative and technical problem-solving skills. Excellent research, presentation and report writing skills.

Strong ability and willingness to work effectively as a team leader and team member. Must be able to collaborate and cooperate with team members, project sponsors, other stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and diplomacy. Effective motivational and diplomatic skills appropriate to large and complex organizations.

Ability to effectively navigate a professional and political climate. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal calmly and effectively with people.

Excellent oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with a wide range of contacts and to write effective documents, proposals, and reports.

Advanced computer skills in Word and Excel and Project Management software application tools (MS Project, Wrike).

Ability and willingness to learn new systems, technologies and project management methods and tools.
