With over 25 years of experience and a workforce of 250+ employees annually, Matrix is known for delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions in complex and remote environments. We are a drug- and alcohol-free workplace committed to safety, transparency, and operational excellence.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Food Services Manager to lead and elevate our national remote camp catering operations from our Osoyoos, BC office.

Reporting to the National Operations Manager, this role is critical in driving:

  • Menu standardization and innovation
  • Food safety compliance
  • Operational excellence across 20+ remote sites

This is a high-impact role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, logistics-heavy environments and can balance culinary leadership with operational discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Catering Operations & Menu Development

  • Develop and manage tiered menu programs:
  • Tier A: Premium (steak, prime rib & seafood options weekly)
  • Tier B: High-quality home-style meals
  • Tier C: Efficient, camp-style menus
  • Standardize “plug-and-play” menus for operations and sales proposals
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and client satisfaction across all sites

Budgeting & Procurement

  • Track and manage project-level food budgets
  • Optimize purchasing strategies in high-cost, remote environments
  • Manage vendor relationships (, Sysco, Gordon Food Service, local suppliers)
  • Coordinate logistics for challenging supply chains (including fly-in sites)

Quality Control & Reporting

  • Implement daily reporting systems from camp teams (menus, photos, compliance)
  • Conduct virtual audits for food quality, presentation, and adherence
  • Monitor performance and drive continuous improvement across locations

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Oversee food safety systems (HACCP principles, temp logs, sanitation)
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal health regulations
  • Support kitchen inspections, approvals, and regulatory engagement

Leadership & Development

  • Support recruitment and onboarding of kitchen staff
  • Mentor and develop cooks (including Red Seal pathway support)
  • Build strong relationships with site teams and stakeholders

Safety & Logistics Support

  • Maintain first aid inventory oversight and safety documentation processes
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to support operational needs
  • Conduct occasional site visits (~10%) for audits and supporting mobilization of kitchens in newly built camps

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience in catering, camp, or commercial kitchen management
  • Strong experience managing multi-site or remote operations
  • Proven ability in budgeting, cost control, and procurement
  • Knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP, FoodSafe)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Seal Cook certification (strong asset)
  • Experience in remote camp environments
  • Background in supply chain logistics or complex operations
  • Experience managing across multiple time zones and deadlines
  • Strong leadership presence with experienced kitchen teams

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel to remote camp locations occasionally (~10% of role)
  • Flexibility to support operational needs as required
  • Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal record check

Benefits

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary with growth potential
  • Relocation assistance
  • Stable, full-time schedule (primarily office-based, generally Monday–Friday,)
