Job description

Who we are:

Founded in 2010, Semios Group is a leading agricultural technology company helping growers, agronomists, and ag retailers manage over 200 million acres across five countries. Semios pioneered variable-rate pheromone-based mating disruption in orchards and has since expanded into a comprehensive portfolio covering crop protection, water management, frost control, automation, and a leading farm management information system. The Semios Group includes trusted brands such as Semios, Agworld, Altrac, and Greenbook. We continue to drive the next generation of digital agriculture, supporting growers, agronomists and ag retailers in improving sustainability and profitability.

Our innovative work has been recognized with several industry awards, including:

  • AgTech Breakthrough – Smart Irrigation Company & Pest Management Solution of the Year
  • Thrive Top 50
  • Google for Startups Accelerator Cohort
  • Global Cleantech Top 100

We know our journey is only achievable by having a great team who shares ideas, tries new things, and learns as we go.

Who you are:

You’re driven by purpose and motivated by work that matters. You’re looking for more than a role, you want to be part of a growing, forward-thinking company solving real-world challenges to improve how farming works, today and for the future.

As the Team Lead - Quality Assurance (QA), you will be tasked with owning the quality and testing strategy within Engineering as well as supporting and mentoring the functional Quality Assurance team, and ensuring proper end-to-end test coverage of the products at Semios Group. You are collaborative and passionate about ensuring the reliability of products through testing. You are excited by the opportunity to help us develop and scale this important area of our business and will thrive both with influencing others and doing aspects yourself.

What you will do:

Testing Strategy and Implementation

  • Design an overall quality and testing strategy for Semios Group, including processes, implementation of standards, and a workforce plan to support priorities.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, product management, project management, and other team leads to shape and implement the testing strategy.
  • Participate in System Testing Architecture design and implementation.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and measure testing-based KPIs for Engineering.
  • Advise and collaborate with developers in Engineering on how to best leverage and incorporate testing into their workflows.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Create and manage a diverse testing team (local/remote and internal/3rd party) by:
  • Participating in recruitment activities.
  • Overseeing 3rd party test providers.
  • Mentoring team members in problem-solving approaches, tools, and best practices.
  • Providing regular performance feedback to enable employee development and goal achievement.

Product Quality and Operational Excellence

  • Ensure a high level of operational excellence for Semios Group products through testing, including:
  • Web and mobile applications.
  • Firmware that runs on IoT Devices.
  • Data infrastructure supporting Data Analytics, Research, and data-driven Agriculture products.

Technical Skills & Expertise (Preferred):

  • Web Technologies & Frameworks: Experience and understanding of modern web frameworks and libraries such as React, Angular, or Django or Rails.
  • Database Management: Solid experience using relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and DevOps tools to ensure continuous integration and deployment.
  • Version Control & Collaboration: Expertise in Git, GitHub/GitLab, and Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Trello) to facilitate team collaboration and code management.
  • Testing Frameworks: Proficient in using automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or Selenium, and understanding of test-driven development (TDD) principles.

Requirements

We want you to succeed, so you will need:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership/management position.
  • Strong background in QA methodologies and testing practices
  • Experience leading QA teams in a fast-paced, agile environment, ideally with distributed or remote teams.
  • A track record of improving engineering processes and driving team success.
  • Experience mentoring team members in problem-solving approaches, tools, and best practices.
  • Providing regular performance feedback to enable employee development and goal achievement.

Salary range: $100,000 to $120,000 per year

We publish a salary range to provide transparency and represent the full growth potential of the role; as a result, offers are made based on demonstrated mastery and experience and generally fall near the midpoint.

Benefits

Why this is the opportunity for you:

  • Purposeful Work: Make a global impact by advancing sustainable food production.
  • Our People: Work with a fun, collaborative, and supportive team.
  • Recharge: Generous vacation policy, company-paid holidays and year-end winter break.
  • Work Flexibility: Hybrid working arrangements and strong work-life balance culture.
  • Prioritize Your Well-Being: Access comprehensive health plans designed to support your physical and mental health.
  • Group RRSP, which includes a 3% company paid match after three months of employment.
  • Office location that is convenient via transit and bike paths

At Semios Group, we value the full range of experience and perspectives people bring—not just what’s listed in a job description. If your background is a close match, we encourage you to apply. If you need accommodations during the interview process, please let us know.

We welcome all applicants regardless of race, gender, orientation, sexual identity, economic class, ability, disability, age, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, or status. We believe that different perspectives and backgrounds are what make a company flourish.
