Job description

Job Summary


This is a Research Assistant position within Sekhon Laboratory in the Division of Critical Care in the Department of Medicine, The University of British Columbia. The incumbent will support research and administrative activities, contributes to team collaboration, and assists with projects as needed.

Organizational Status
The Research Technician will assist the Principal Investigator and lab members with experiments and day-to-day lab activities. The individual will interact closely with members of the research group including graduate and undergraduate students; UBC and department staff and administrators; and collaborators.

Work Performed

  • Assists with knowledge translation duties including website and social media
  • Maintains research related records and databases, entering data according to established protocols
  • Attend weekly lab meetings to discuss work progress.
  • Assist graduate students with their projects as needed.
  • Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification
  • Perform other administrative/clerical duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent is accountable for supporting research activities and the efficient maintenance of research data. Errors made could influence the data quality, timelines, and study integrity, and thus compromise the results of research projects. This would impact the credibility of the PI and other research team investigators.

Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine duties are carried out under general supervision.

High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and work experience in a research and hospital environment and a minimum of two years of related experience is preferred
  • Research experience in immunomodulation for cardiac arrest patients is an asset.
