Job description

Job Title : Trucking Operations Manager

Location : Dartmouth

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide a team of dispatchers, providing day-to-day direction, training, and mentoring to ensure the highest level of performance.
  • Ensure the timely and efficient dispatching of drivers, optimizing routes for both national and cross-border shipments to meet customer deadlines while minimizing operational costs.
  • Take responsibility for assigning loads and routes to drivers, considering factors such as time constraints, driver availability, fuel consumption, tolls, and customer specifications. Utilize data-driven insights to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage the financial aspects of each load, ensuring accurate freight costing by evaluating factors such as fuel, distance, driver labor, tolls, and equipment.
  • Oversee the adherence to national and international transportation regulations, including safety standards, driver hours of service (HOS), border crossing procedures, and customs documentation. Ensure all drivers are compliant with safety protocols and regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Act as the point of escalation for any operational issues, such as shipment delays, customer concerns, or equipment failures. Resolve issues promptly while minimizing impact on service levels and customer satisfaction.
  • Work closely with the finance, sales, fleet management, and customer service teams to ensure alignment and cohesion across all departments. Provide insights on operational challenges, sales opportunities, and customer feedback to ensure smooth communication and optimal performance.
  • Lead and implement sales initiatives to secure new business, generate leads, and expand the company’s customer base. Identify key target markets and develop tailored strategies to increase sales and revenue.
  • Cultivate strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers. Proactively identify opportunities for upselling or cross-selling additional services, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction to foster repeat business and client loyalty.
  • Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in trucking dispatch, logistics, or transportation operations, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in sales and business development in the trucking industry is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations (FMCSA, DOT, cross-border rules), freight costing, load securing, and route optimization.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to manage expectations, resolve issues, and build long-lasting relationships.
  • Strong sales experience, including the ability to negotiate freight rates, secure new business, and manage client relationships to drive revenue growth.
