Join the City of Medicine Hat as a Power Plant Operator (Summer Relief)

Temporary, Full time, On Site

The City of Medicine Hat is committed to fostering a positive, supportive, and engaging workplace where every employee can thrive. As a Power Plant Operator, you'll play a vital role in the operation of our combined cycle power plant. This is your chance to join a collaborative team, working 12-hour rotating shifts, weekends, and embracing overtime when needed.

Your key responsibilities

  • Safely operate equipment, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and AESO regulations.
  • Monitor plant equipment proactively to prevent operational issues.
  • Communicate operational and mechanical statuses to the Shift Engineer.
  • Exhibit strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the Shift Engineer.

  • A strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new processes, tasks and systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively amongst a team and demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and dedication to completing assigned tasks.
  • Qualifications

  • Third or Fourth Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency.
  • Minimum of one year related experience or a first-year power engineering student.
  • Grade 12 or high school equivalency diploma.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Safety Sensitive position - completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.
