Job description

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Pharmacist to oversee the operations of a highly specialized operation that includes a state-of-the-art compounding laboratory for the preparation of high-cost medications and specialty drugs. This location gets minimal walk-ins. This is a full-time, permanent position, from Monday to Friday, from 9am – 5pm. (no evenings, no weekends).

Position Description

This role offers Monday to Friday, daytime hours. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and participating in the compounding of sterile medications, including intravenous solutions, injections and other sterile products
  • Ensuring staff adhere to strict aseptic techniques to maintain sterility and prevent contamination
  • Ensuring all activities meet federal and provincial regulations, ie. NAPRA, USP, FDA, etc.
  • Maintaining proper documentation for compounded preparations, including batch records and quality control checks.
  • Overseeing environmental monitoring and ensuring the sterile environment meets cleanliness standards
  • Verifying that all drugs meet required specifications, including sterility, potency and stability before releasing.
  • Reviewing prescriptions for appropriateness and accuracy before dispensing.
  • Ensuring all medications are labelled accurately
  • Managing inventory levels ensuring adequate stock of sterile compounding supplies, active ingredients, sterile equipment, syringes, etc.
  • Ensuring all products (raw materials and finished goods) are stored property in required temperature controlled environments.
  • Providing training to new staff, and mentoring existing staff when required
  • Performing regular competency assessments to ensure staff adhere to aseptic techniques and compounding protocols.

Please note, this job posting is intended to outline the general responsibilities and qualifications for the Staff Pharmacy. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the pharmacy operations and patient care.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience as a practicing pharmacist
  • A valid license as a Pharmacist in good standing with the college of Pharmacy in Ontario
  • Must be a Part A licensed pharmacist
  • Experience in a leadership role a strong asset
  • Complex compounding experience a nice-to-have

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)
  • A licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacy
