Description
The Family Outreach Coordinator will provide oversight to family ministries programs and give focused attention to strengthen and grow programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of families. In a cooperative team-based environment, the incumbent will design and implement a holistic Gospel centered and relational focused ministry including but not limited to Christian discipleship, community outreach, community partnerships and The Pathway of Hope. Through the Pathway of Hope Program, the Family Outreach Coordinator will provide a high impact case management approach that focuses on identifying and addressing root causes for families living in poverty. The Family Outreach Coordinator will provide casework services to families through the Pathway of Hope (POH) approach. A strengths-based approach will be used to interview, assess, and formulate a plan of action to assist families in moving from crisis to stability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Spiritual Leadership :
- Contribute to the spiritual development of families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitude with families.
- Work as a key member with the church’s leadership team.
- Conduct and coordinate fall, and spring day festivals for community outreach.
- Prays with and or leads family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits.
- Be willing to make Whitby your home church base with the understanding that Sunday meeting attendance is an essential part of the ministry responsibility.
Family Program Leadership :
In conjunction with the Whitby Leadership Team, develop, organize, and mobilize a comprehensive outreach ministry for our communities, providing regular programs (e.g., Cafe Connection, Trunk and Treat, Messy Church, Parking Lot Ministry, Community Festivals...).Organize and facilitate potential events that will connect with families that are not actively connected with any other church and those with our Community & Family Services ministries.Network with community partners leaders, community youth organizations and schools in Whitby. e., booths at local community events offering information.Perform all aspects of the case management process using the Pathway of Hope approach (selection, intake, assessment, goal planning, action, transition, and follow-up).Develop goal plans with client families and schedule regular meetings to review progress and engage in further planning.Ensure confidentiality is maintained in accordance with The Salvation Army policy and applicable legislation.Provide information and referral services as needed for clients, may also include individuals who are not eligible for support through the Pathway of Hope program.Conduct home visits as needed.Engage and build rapport with the target population.Assist clients in making connections within the community which will support them in accessing community resources.Network with other service providers and maintain working relationships with community agencies to provide comprehensive services for participants.Work closely with other local ministry unit personnel to form an interdisciplinary team to work with families from a holistic perspective.Maintain case files for each client family, including accurate documentation, detailed case notes, and ensure that appropriate forms are used at all times.Ensure accurate collection and maintenance of data, submit monthly summary of service statistics to the Regional Coordinator, and assist the Regional Coordinator in semi-annual evaluation / outcomes measurement.Attend training sessions that support the initial implementation phase and ongoing training for the sustained delivery of Pathway of Hope.Community Relationship Management :
Participate as a member of ministry leadership boards and in team meetings.Assist in the planning of connection strategies and events as required to promote incorporation into the church fellowship.Know and act in accordance with security procedures of the church to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.Ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the principles, standards, policies, and procedures of The Salvation Army.Health and Safety
Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.Ensure compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and requirements.Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
This is a permanent full-time position based on 40 hours per week supporting Whitby Community Church. The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.Job duties will be performed in the Corps buildings for most of the time, with work being done in public spaces (coffee shop and parks, parking lot).Flexibility in scheduling, may be evenings and weekends, as needed.Work includes cleaning up after events.This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.Ability to lift / move objects / materials of up to 20 lbs.Occasional travel may be associated with this position.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :
Completion of a formal post-secondary / college diploma program of 2 or 3 academic years. Preferably in a human services field, i.e., Social Services Worker.Additional education in programming and organization is an asset.Proof of valid Safe Food Handlers Certification is required.First Aid / CPR discretion is required.Ability to provide a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE :
Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in providing casework services, documenting, and maintaining case files, working in collaboration with other service providers, community outreach, and working with people of diverse backgrounds.SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES :
