Job Summary :
Our client seeks a Consultant to work as an Occupational Therapist, using Neuromotor (NMT) and a Clinical Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Program).
To meet these complex needs, services can include assessment, diagnosis, consultation and intervention from various disciplines including medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, OT / PT Assistants, psychology, social work and speech-language pathology. The disciplines work in collaboration with our community partners to provide a continuum of care. This is a fast paced, dynamic work environment requiring the candidate to work independently as well as collaboratively with other professionals involved in the client and family’s care.
The Clinical Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Program uses cutting edge, non-invasive technology to support independent participation in recreation and functional applications among children with severe neuromotor conditions. The Occupational Therapist provides training and support in the use of BCI technologies with clients and their families. This role involves onsite, in-person visits as well as virtual visits with clients and families.
Key Responsibilities :
- Partner with clients and families to formulate and implement individualized client-centered goals with focused, targeted and measurable outcomes.
- Provide client care in collaboration with the client / family to plan, implement and evaluate care, documenting the habilitative / rehabilitative process according to hospital policies.
- Interface and problem solve with members of the interprofessional care team and community providers as appropriate to ensure an integrated approach to care.
- Incorporate evaluative activities into professional practice to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care.
- Assess clients’ abilities and train the client and family in the use of brain computer interface (BCI) technology. Support specifically required in the areas of positioning to optimize access and use of technology to facilitate participation.
- Address challenges identified in client occupational performance. Provide assessment and intervention directed at the person, occupation and environmental factors influencing occupational performance.
- Utilize research to establish and support evidence-informed practice.
- Utilize the teaching / learning process to provide education on various conditions, both formal and informal, to clients / families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and the community.
- Provide direct service (individual and / or group), consultation, mediation and education to clients, families, and community providers with focus on maximizing the client’s physical functioning and independent participation in functional and recreational activities using a brain computer interface.
- Provide education both formal and informal to clients / families colleagues, students and others within the organization and the community.
- Promote and support the physical, psychosocial and spiritual well being of patients and families.
- Practices according to organizational policies and standards for practice as set out by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client / patient safety through work and daily practices.
- This position may require flexible work hours consistent with program requirements (may be required to work some evenings and / or weekends).
- Documents according to Occupational Therapy standards
- Document workload statistics according to the Workload Measurement of the Ministry of Health
- Other duties as assigned
