A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, Student Leadership & Engagement, the incumbent is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining integrated programs, events, and initiatives intended to foster student engagement, enhance student success, support successful transition into the university and enhance the overall experience for students. The New Student Experience Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that contributes to student success and retention. The incumbent collaborates closely with various partners, including faculty, staff, and student organizations, to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to supporting new students and their success.

As the New Student Experience Coordinator, you will :

  • Research, plan, market, implement, and evaluate programming and resources that support the transition, retention, and success of students at Brock University and encourage students’ personal, social and intellectual growth;
  • Research instructional and theoretical models related to designing and delivering programs;
  • Engage campus partners to review, plan, and implement programs and / or adapt existing programs;
  • Research, design, market, and execute annual programs that meet the needs of Brock’s diverse students tied to student success and retention;
  • Oversee a series of student-focused programs, both virtual and in-person, directed primarily at New-to-Brock student populations, that emphasize a successful transition to Brock, the Niagara region, and University life;
  • Lead the planning and delivery of orientation / training / events that support students’ successful integration into the university and university life;
  • Plan and implement campus-wide events to help all students connect with campus resources in collaboration with other student service areas and other university partners;
  • Coordinate the recruitment, training, and supervision of student leaders, volunteers, and peer mentors to assist with orientation / event / program activities and serve as resources for students;
  • Develop and propose outcomes and methods of assessment for programs, including metrics, surveys, focus groups and direct assessment of the student experience;
  • Maintain accurate records and data related to student participation, engagement, and outcomes, and prepare reports as needed for departmental and institutional assessment purposes;
  • Build relationships and maintain regular, professional communication with partners across the Brock community and with external partners;
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure students are provided with the necessary support, resources, and information pertinent to their Brock University experience.

What you need to Succeed…

  • Undergraduate Degree in a related discipline;
  • 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role supporting students, with an element of project management and implementation in event planning / staff engagement programming / marketing, communications and promotion / facilitation and training / student support;
  • Knowledge of best practices in student engagement and development, orientation and transition theory;
  • Knowledge of event planning and event execution;
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends in experiential learning;
  • Demonstrated success working with teams of staff or volunteers;
  • Interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy while interacting with a wide range of internal and external partners;
  • Skilled at engaging students and groups;
  • Strong training and facilitation skills;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion;
  • Research-oriented to achieve best practice benchmarks for programs;
  • Creative and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • Knowledge of risk management considerations for student events.
  • Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade (K), Salary Scale ($57,400-$98,400)
  • Target Hiring Range : $57,400-$62,500
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
  • The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
