Currently, there are over 1,600 students representing over 40 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds and over 13,000 alumni. Founded in 1894, Tyndale is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

POSITION PURPOSE

The University Librarian serves as the Director of the J. William Horsey Library and provides effective management, leadership and strategy development for all aspects of library services at Tyndale University. The University Librarian leads the team of people who acquire, manage and promote the tangible and digital resources needed to facilitate teaching, learning, and research according to the mission of Tyndale. The University Librarian collaborates with faculty and staff in the pursuit of truth, excellence in teaching, learning and research, for the enriching of mind, heart and character, to serve the church and the world for the glory of God.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals.
  • Recruit, develop, motivate, lead, and mentor direct reports.
  • Ensure the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of department team members are based on agreed-upon measurable objectives, and corrective action is taken where necessary.
  • Oversee day to day operations of the Library and the Archives and ensure the duties of the Library team members are carried out in compliance with departmental and Library of Congress standards, policies and procedures.
  • Create and sustain an environment of excellence and professionalism in customer service and teamwork.

Library Services

  • Plan and implement library programs and services that will meet the academic needs of the Tyndale community.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of plans for deselection and acquisition of Library materials in tangible and digital formats. Solicit faculty and student input and recommendations in the selection of materials, databases and Library applications.
  • With the assistance of acquisitions staff, select and approve additions to the collection.
  • Keep up to date on changes in library practice and technology and implement changes to provide the academic community at Tyndale with adequate and emerging services to provide state of the art library services.
  • Foster redemptive relationships with all members of the University community with a view to contributing to the development of spiritual maturity in students.
  • Oversee the maintenance and preservation of rare book collections, special collections, historical archives and other valued University artifacts with a view to making appropriate items digitally accessible.
  • Administration

  • Prepare annual Library and Archive budgets. Monitor approved budgets, restricted funds, and approved library purchases.
  • Research, analyze and negotiate best services for all contracts / vendors.
  • Serve as a catalyst for change by engaging and collaborating with faculty to expand or advance library services and resources, and by representing the needs and concerns of the Library to the campus community through involvement on the Senate, Faculty Councils, Academic Planning Committees and other committees as appropriate.
  • Represent Tyndale to the library community through membership in professional organizations, attending conferences and workshops and contributing to the literature of librarianship.
  • Determine institutional involvement with library consortia.
  • Be available to the administration of Tyndale to assist with special projects at the discretion of the administration.
  • Track, analyze, and report on all projects and operational costs, up to and including reports to the Tyndale Cabinet.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date policies and procedures for the Library department, including Library policies related to copyright.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education

  • Master’s Degree in library science or equivalent from an accredited ALA school
  • Academic background in theological and Biblical studies an asset
  • Master's degree (six to seven year program) or equivalent, (i.e. MA, MBA, MSW, CPA)
  • Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional library experience in an academic setting, including some responsibility for supervision of professional, support and student staff
  • 8 to 9 years related experience

    Salary Range : $76,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience.
