ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Education the Lead Teacher / Special Education teacher isexpectedto overseeinaccordancewiththeMinistryofEducationguidelinescurriculumforgrade K4 K512 3 and 4 classrooms monitorthe Secwepemc instruction andcurriculum and assist in itsdelivery and implement the Special Education Lead Teacher / Special Educationwill ensurethatthe Little Chiefs Primary School (LCPS) adapts and follows the School District #27 school calendar which outlines the number of instructional days for that calendar year. The candidate will d evelop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each LCPS staff directly report to the Lead Teacher / Special Education.

Education Required

  • CurrentBCCollegeofTeachersFullPracticing Certificate.
  • Bachelorof Education.
  • Valid First Aid CPR
  • Management experience

Experience Required

  • A minimum of 3 years or more experience working with children youth with diverse learning and in a management / supervisor role.
  • Overtime Status

    Nonexempt.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Lead Teacher

  • Monitors and maintains budgets related specifically to LCPS.
  • Responsible for meeting the criteria and obligations of the 5year certification process with FNSA / FNESC.
  • Responsible for meeting the criteria and obligations of the nominal roll documentation.
  • Responsible for meeting the criteria and obligations of the reciprocal tuition.
  • Deliver the Ministry of Education Primary Curriculum starting at K5.
  • Oversee the daytoday operation of the classroom and school.
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Education the First Nation Schools Association and the First Nations Education Steering Committee regarding program delivery.
  • Collaborate with development of Secwepemctsin curriculum and implementation.
  • Consult with parent(s) / caregivers on a regular and timely basis.
  • Advocate for the education of the children and families.
  • Develop maintain and implement Little Chiefs Primary School proposals and reports for program enhancement and delivery.
  • Special Education Lead

  • Complete and submit the SEP proposal workplan in September on the SEP portal and complete Interim and Final reports
  • Acquire parental consent for SEP services i.e. : speech and language occupational therapy.
  • Complete the SEP services contract to the Education Director for required signatures.
  • Develop schedules for specialists i.e. : pathologists etc. to work with students.
  • Assess student needs and if necessary assist with the development of an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Student intervention will occur on an as needed basis and a schedule will be developed with teachers.
  • Responsible for benchmark testing and reporting occurs three times / year and reports results to teachers.
  • Benchmark testing is reported on the ALO portal and the results are printed and reported to teachers.
  • Oversee the daytoday operations of the SEP program.
  • Consult with parent(s) / caregivers on a regular and timely basis.
  • Bus Program

  • Establish performance standards and supervise operational care service and maintenance of bus within the department and implement policies and procedures including changes. Establishes all regular bus routes schedules and stops and maintain routing software to develop route maps for drivers school etc. as appropriate.
  • Ensure to book community bus for Class 2 or Class 4 substitute bus drivers.
  • Ensure insurance maintenance schedule and work orders or addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures the daily Inspection Reports are completed and filed on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensure the annual inspection is completed and comply with regulations and appointments.
  • Ensures all recalls received by WLFN are adhered to immediately.
  • Responsible for updating and ensuring the school bus drivers binders are always in the school bus and that it is reviewed with a substitute driver prior to their first bus run.
  • Ensures daily inspections are completed for vandalism damage and inventory of first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
  • Responsible for working with the bus driver to evaluate the safety of road conditions during inclement weather.
  • Human Resources and Administration

  • Works with Human Resources (HR) for the recruitment orientation performance review and development of LCPS staff.
  • Works with Human Resources (HR) for the recruitment orientation performance review and development of LCPS Special Education Contractors.
  • Schedules staff for daily weekly and monthly routines provides training and helps troubleshoot difficult tasks or issues.
  • Ensures employee compliance with WLFN policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and leads staff meetings sets the agenda provides minutes and clearly communicates WLFN information to all staff.
  • Keeps the Director of Education informed of sensitive and important issues and events including but not limited to HR staffing concerns budget funding and expenditures.
  • Ensure there is a system of checks and balances for the maintenance of accurate and confidential files and records; comply with reporting requirements.
  • Supports the Mission Vision and Values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  • Contributes to the WLFNs ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
