About Us

McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to power a secure energy future.

The Role

Reporting to the manager, operations, you will be responsible for all underground mine operational activities including the management of production, construction, development, freeze drilling and diamond drilling.

In this role, you will:

• Ensure all activities are carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, in compliance with all provincial and federal regulations and in accordance with Cameco’s policies and guidelines.
• In consultation with the operations manager, establish production, development and improvement objectives and strategies for the operation to support the achievement of Cameco’s objectives.
• Ensuring the mine operation is properly resourced including Cameco workers, mine contractors and equipment.
• Provide leadership to the mine operations group, seeking ways to achieve operational excellence in Cameco’s four pillars of success (A safe, healthy, and rewarding workplace, A clean environment, Supportive communities and Outstanding financial performance).
• Manage and be accountable for mine operational costs.
• Work closely with Cameco’s support groups and act as project sponsor for mine operational projects.

Required:

• bachelor’s degree in engineering, a related field or equivalent experience in mining;
• a minimum of ten years of experience in progressively senior, operational leadership roles;
• experience in underground mine operations, both technical and operational;
• strong communication, leadership and relationship building skills; and
• work an irregular schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
  

Recommended:

• experience in uranium mining; and
• current on mine technology and mining equipment.
