Job description

Role Overview: The Plant Maintenance Manager oversees all maintenance activities and staff for a state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This role is responsible for ensuring equipment efficiency, safety compliance, and the implementation of robust maintenance programs to support high-volume recycling operations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, schedule, and train a team of maintenance technicians while fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee the repair and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Program Development: Design and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Financial & Administrative Management: Manage departmental planning, budgeting, staffing, and parts inventory.
  • Technical Support: Provide hands-on troubleshooting and support the startup and commissioning of new facility equipment.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized upgrades and complex repairs.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations strictly adhere to Corporate, OHSA, and environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate maintenance records and facility data within the CMMS.

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Specific experience with conveyors, screens, and optical sorters.
  • Proficiency in utilizing CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Ability to manage complex predictive and preventive maintenance schedules.

Functional & Leadership Skills:

  • 7+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Proven ability in budget management, resource planning, and discipline implementation.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Strong project management skills related to equipment commissioning and facility startups.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (High School Diploma/GED plus 4 years of additional experience).
  • Red Seal, Millwright, or a similar trade certification is highly preferred.
