Job descriptionExperience : 10+ years of backend development experience with expertise in designing and developing SaaS and OTT platforms. Leadership : Proven experience leading development projects in agile environments, including managing small teams. Proficiency with Java and Kotlin. Strong foundation in cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and microservices architecture. Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and in-memory databases (e.g., Redis). Experience with Spring Cloud, Kubernetes, and Docker. Knowledge of encryption protocols (SHA, AES, RSA) and best practices in data security. Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally, optimizing the SaaS user experience. Ability to lead a team with empathy, fostering collaboration and technical growth. Experience with live or VOD video streaming platforms. Familiarity with multimedia codecs (AVC, HEVC, VP9) and DRM systems (PlayReady, Widevine). Your Role in Shaping the Future of Video Streaming
Position Type : Full-Time, Permanent
Location : Vancouver, BC (Hybrid - 1 day remote per week)
What You’ll Do :
As a Java Backend Development Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping the backend architecture of our OTT Video SaaS platform. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills, as you will guide and mentor a team of developers, driving innovation and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance BitKernel’s global reach and provide seamless video experiences for users around the world.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and Collaborate : Lead a team of developers in building and optimizing server-side logic using Kotlin and Java.
- Architectural Design : Design and implement scalable, microservices architectures.
- Integration : Integrate user-facing elements with backend services, working closely with front-end developers.
- Code Optimization : Develop reusable code libraries and optimize applications for performance and scalability.
- Data Management : Implement and maintain data storage solutions, ensuring data integrity and availability.

The Pay Range for This Role Is :
140,000 - 180,000 CAD per year
