Machine Learning Research Scientist – AI-Driven Drug Discovery

Remote or Hybrid in Vancouver (U.S. or Canada – PST Time Zone)

About Us

Our client is a fast-growing, AI-driven drug discovery startup on a mission to accelerate the time it takes to bring new drugs to human trials. By leveraging cutting-edge machine learning techniques, they aim to revolutionize small molecule drug design and optimization. Currently a 10-person team , they are looking to expand to 15 team members and are seeking top-tier ML researchers to help push the boundaries of AI in drug discovery.

The Role

As a Machine Learning Research Scientist , you will :

  • Design, implement, and test different scenarios within our from-scratch ML architecture to optimize the properties of small molecule drugs.
  • Continually improve the robustness of our existing codebase through refactoring, testing, and best engineering practices.
  • Apply our ML pipeline to new drug targets , ensuring state-of-the-art performance and scalability.

This is a fully remote role , but you must be able to work within Pacific Time Zone (PST) hours .

Must-Haves

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or Mathematics (Master’s degree acceptable if qualifications below are met).
  • First-author publications in NeurIPS, ICLR, or ICML (secondary preference for AAAI, AISTATS, UAI, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, or ACM). Publications must be in the main conference, not workshops.
  • Expertise in Machine Learning , with deep experience in :
  • Diffusion models
  • Transformers
  • Bayesian optimization
  • 2+ years of experience developing robust code in larger projects, including :
  • Code review & refactoring
  • Unit testing & version control
  • Collaborative software development
  • Strong Python and PyTorch expertise
