Job description
Our Edmonton client is seeking a forward-thinking Solution Architect for a long-term contract engagement focused on modernizing a complex technology landscape. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level strategy and technical execution by investigating existing systems to design cloud-native solutions that solve real-world problems. You will join a collaborative team where your expertise in serverless patterns and API-first strategies will help shape the future of the organization's digital environment.

Advantages
• Work on high-impact modernization projects that replace legacy constraints with modern cloud-native architectures.
• Enjoy a balanced role that combines deep architectural design with hands-on coding and prototyping.
• Influence the technical direction of a major public institution through thought leadership and mentorship.
• Gain experience with a modern tech stack including AWS, TypeScript, Python, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups in a sophisticated environment that values practical and achievable innovation.

Responsibilities
• Investigate how existing systems function to identify technical bottlenecks and the root causes of recurring issues.
• Translate business requirements into future-state architectures using serverless and microservices patterns.
• Develop transition roadmaps that outline incremental steps to move from current systems to target cloud states.
• Build working prototypes and proof-of-concept implementations to validate the feasibility of architectural designs.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation including architecture decision records and sequence diagrams.
• Write code and develop infrastructure as code templates using AWS CDK to accelerate development cycles.
• Mentor development teams on modern engineering practices and provide guidance during technical code reviews.

Qualifications
• Extensive experience designing cloud-native solutions using AWS services and managed messaging platforms.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, or Java for technical validation.
• Proven background in API-first integration strategies and event-driven architecture design.
• Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code and experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Summary
If you are a problem-solver who enjoys digging into the details of how systems work while designing the scalable solutions of tomorrow, we want to hear from you. Please apply directly to this job ad or reach out to your Randstad Digital representative immediately!
