Job description

The Controller is responsible for the leadership of the finance personnel and oversees all activities of the finance department. The Controller will lead, inspire, build, and motivate a high-performance team that delivers on our higher purpose – ‘Enriching the lives of our partners’ and influence behavior to create a culture of excellence.

As a member of the finance team and as a new Steelway family member, you will join a diverse, dynamic group of highly motivated individuals that bring with them a wide array of talents, skills, and backgrounds.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Manage and direct the Finance Department personnel to ensure that the financial reporting and controls are performed in a timely, accurate, and complete manner.
  • Dependably demonstrates a relentless obsession with our higher purpose, values alignment, and our employee centered culture.
  • Mentor and coach team members to develop their skills and potential, and provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement long-term strategies for the finance department that align with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Preparation of accurate monthly and year-end financial reporting for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the finance department including payroll, collections, banking, and taxes.
  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable/Payable Coordinator to ensure invoices are processed, collected, and paid on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Work with the Assistant Controller and Partner Experience to ensure that employees are paid timely and accurately.
  • Estimate and review manufacturing costs to assist the Business Development team in preparing meaningful quotes and projections.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the company’s annual budget.
  • Maintaining the books and records.
  • Maintaining and implementing internal controls.
  • Maintain compliance with government agencies.
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and year-end packages for external accountants.
  • Update accounting procedures & policies as required.
  • Participate and actively contribute finance recommendations on the implementation of an ERP system.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement by encouraging team members to suggest new ideas and processes that can enhance efficiency and productivity.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance / Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years management experience
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting policies, computerized accounting systems, and job costing.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills and a history of developing high performing teams.
  • Strategic-minded person who is also hands-on and highly focused on details.
  • Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • A culture-focused team player who is collaborative and diplomatic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Experienced in a computerized manufacturing accounting environment preferred.
  • Experience with system implementation preferred.
