Intent of the process

This is an inventory by which we will establish a list / pool of fully qualified candidates to staff elementary Teacher positions for various periods both permanent and short term which will vary according to the need for Teacher's throughout the school year at Six Nations of the Grand River (Ohsweken, Ontario).

Essential Education

  • EDU - Graduation with a degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution with acceptable specialization in education, linguistics, sociology, psychology, mathematics, physics, home economics or some other specialty relevant to the positions in the classification.
  • Essential Occupational Certification

  • OC - Possession of an acceptable teaching certificate from a province or territory of Canada (Must be certified and in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers at the time of appointment which must be maintained for the duration of employment).
  • NOTE TO CANDIDATES : Applicants currently in the process of obtaining their OCT Certificate may also apply.

    Essential Experience

  • EX - Experience as a teacher or teacher candidate in an elementary private / public school setting demonstrated through recent performance appraisals and / or professional references, professional portfolio, practicum.

Working and learning together in a First Nations community requires cultural awareness to succeed.

    Asset Qualifications

    The candidate should demonstrate that they have as many of the asset qualifications as possible because these might be used to determine the priority of qualified candidates.

    Asset Education

  • AED1 - Additional Qualification Courses in Special education, reading, mathematics, or subject‑area fields
  • AED2 - Mohawk Language Diploma or Degree
  • AED3 - Cayuga Language Diploma or Degree
  • Asset Experience

  • AEX1 - Experience working in the Six Nations community or other First Nation community
  • AEX2 - Experience in teaching Indigenous children

  • AAB1 - Ability to communicate orally in Cayuga

  • assessment board member personal / direct knowledge of candidates' qualifications. Some assessment tools may be administered electronically, others, in‑person. (

  • Proof of education
