OVERVIEW :
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is seeking an Instructional Design Consultant. Reporting to the manager, eLearning, the incumbent provides instructional design advice, guidance and support to faculty, subject-matter experts (SMEs), staff and administrators through the application of current evidence-based principles and Universal Design for Learning. The Instructional Designer is responsible for the development of online (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, flexible, or HyFlex) course design and development that meets Durham College’s standards for academic quality.
The incumbent will advise faculty, SMEs, and course developers on areas including instructional design processes, science of learning principles, educational technology, learning activities and accessibility standards. The incumbent will be required to work independently and collaboratively in a team consisting of faculty, SMEs, and members of the CTL.
The incumbent will have a successful track record of managing staff, projects, and deadlines, possess strong leadership and relationship-building skills, be task-oriented, have a demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting priorities, and have experience working with and building in learning management systems such as Desire2Learn. Experience working with design applications (ex. H5P, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) would be considered an asset. The incumbent will possess excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills, as well as a deep understanding of current pedagogical and instructional design principles and accessibility standards including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and AODA. The incumbent will collaborate with the CTL team to develop and deliver professional development workshops to professors, staff and administrators, and develop online materials to support capacity building in online course design supported by instructional design principles.
