Job descriptionEducation, Certification, and / or Licensure : Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school. Experience : One (1) year of administrative or clerical experience. Greet and admit patients upon arrival, prepare patient identification bands and name tags. Welcome visitors and respond courteously to requests for assistance or information. Assist with delivering items to patient rooms. Collect and distribute department mail appropriately. Communicate transfer information accurately when patients are transferred to another facility. Maintain stock levels of office supplies. Handle clerical admission and discharge functions. Schedule follow-up appointments as requested by physicians. Arrange transportation for patients as necessary. Organize and maintain patient and department records for accurate documentation. Fax copies of patient charts for transfers or follow-up care. Coordinate and facilitate ongoing communication for efficient departmental operations. Communicate timely with other departments regarding patient admissions, discharges, transfers, or deaths. Answer phones courteously and promptly, forwarding calls appropriately. Respond to patient call bells courteously and dispatch personnel accordingly. Assist physicians and staff with information requests in accordance with hospital policies. Coordinate communication for patient transportation within and outside the department. Place consult calls to other services promptly and accurately. Maintain communication with other patient care departments to meet patient needs. Operate standard office equipment with manual dexterity. Prolonged periods of sitting and walking throughout the department or complex. Basic computer skills and operation of office equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
