As one of the oldest anti-trafficking agencies in Canada, we have been steadfast in our vision of an Alberta free of human trafficking. We provide essential services to victims and survivors, empower and mobilize our communities, and partner with allies across the country to raise awareness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting Board Directors with governance experience along with expertise in the following areas : professional fundraising, Indigenous relations, non-profit leadership, and / or lived experience with human trafficking. Serving as a volunteer on the Board of Directors provides an opportunity to contribute to a critical issue and make a difference. Awareness of human trafficking is an asset but not required. Prior board experience is of value.

We are seeking candidates who embody the following key attributes :

1. Connection to Cause – Personal lived experience or a strong, authentic connection to the issues ACT Alberta addresses, especially as it relates to supporting marginalized communities and individuals.

2. Indigenous Experience & Relations – Knowledge and respect for Indigenous cultures, history, and ways of life, with a commitment to fostering strong Indigenous relationships.

3. Embraces a culture of equity, inclusion and diversity.

Industry experience :

1. Sector Expertise – Knowledge and / or lived experience in human trafficking will be prioritized.

2. Community Organizing – Demonstrated ability to mobilize people and build coalitions to rally behind a cause, driving community engagement and action.

3. Professional Fundraising – Skilled in planning and executing successful fundraising strategies, with a track record of securing financial support for meaningful initiatives.

4. Enterprise Risk Management – Knowledge of risk assessment and management processes, ensuring the stability and sustainability of the organization’s operations.

5. Nonprofit Leadership – Experience in leading nonprofit teams and supporting staff, ensuring a culture of collaboration, accountability, and growth.

6. Passion for Sharing Impact – Excitement and enthusiasm for sharing the organization’s success stories, communicating the impact of ACT Alberta's work to networks and stakeholders.

If you possess these attributes and are passionate about using a trauma-informed lens to support communities in creating positive change, we want to hear from you!

Expectations : Serving as a Director will involve a contribution of time, specific skills, and financial networking and / or resources. We include our Board of Directors in a culture of giving to propel our organization forward in 2025 and beyond. The Board of Directors meets virtually bi-monthly for board meetings and in the off-months for committee work. The Board meets in person once a year.

Length of Term : Two or three years.

Please send a cover letter outlining your interest, experience and skills, a resume or CV, and two-to-three references. Make your submission to the Board Search Committee by email to : [email protected]
