HOSPITAL / HOMEBOUND TEACHER

School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 16,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools. It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

The school district provides support to students who are unable to attend school for medical reasons. SD42 is looking for a qualified hospital / homebound teacher to work with elementary and secondary students who have not been allocated support teacher time through a special needs designation at their school. Instruction is provided at Ridge Meadows Hospital or in the student’s home. Students typically receive two to three hours of support and / or direct instruction each week.

The applicant will possess :

Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch.

Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch,

Experience from primary through to secondary,

A strong background in secondary Math and Science,

Excellent communication skills, flexibility to work in a variety of locations, ability to work flexible hours and to work in isolation,

Ability to work with outside agencies in order to provide for the needs of the students,

Ability to establish short and long term programs based upon the needs of the student; ability to deal with the emotional stress of working with very ill or terminally ill children and to provide assistance to families of very ill students,

Accountability to a number of schools for programs for individual students.

Counselling experience would be an asset.
