JOB SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Program Manager / Director, the Registered Nurse is responsible for applying nursing theory and practical expertise in the practice setting. The RN collaborates with health professionals, obtains health information, and compiles it for the clinical team at WRCC for triage and planning. The position follows up with patients and community personnel, relaying WRCC clinical recommendations and orders.
The Registered Nurse provides safe, quality patient care within professional nursing practice standards and participates in quality initiatives. The RN complies with Occupational Health and Safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by reporting unsafe conditions.
According to the philosophy and strategic directions of Windsor Regional Hospital, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient and family care, including supportive care and clinical trials, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The RN applies current theory and research in delivering care consistent with the hospital's vision and values.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Perform apheresis procedures for cellular therapy, including stem cell collection.
- Involve in pre, intra, and post-treatment apheresis procedures.
- Conduct monitoring and quality checks on apheresis equipment.
- Coordinate appointments, tests, and treatments with multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide information to patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, and potential side effects.
- Collaborate with the care team to develop individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor patients’ progress through treatment and identify concerns.
- Ensure adherence to prescribed treatment plans and assist with barriers.
- Address concerns or side effects post-treatment and guide care.
- Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers.
- Facilitate communication within the healthcare team.
- Participate in transplant and cellular activity-related activities.
- Coordinate care for patients undergoing transplants and cellular therapy.
- Collaborate with CMH NP on patient care plans.
- Manage side effects or complications from treatments.
- Participate in program and role development initiatives.
- Provide patient care as assigned for CMH patients.
- Offer emotional support for patients and families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay updated on research and best practices in hematology.
- Develop / participate in educational initiatives.
- Liaise with other regional centres and provincial bodies as required.
