Job description

Riverside Primary school (PS) and Riverside Education Support Centre (ESC) are seeking to establish a pool of Library Officer’s for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

We currently have the following positions available, commencing Term 3, 2026

  • 1 x - permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position
  • 1 x - 3-month fixed term, part-time (0.6 FTE) position with possible extension and/or permanency

Riverside PS is a Level 5 school with approximately 480 students enrolled in Kindergarten to Year 6. Riverside draws from a wide boundary catchment area. Families of Riverside are from diverse social and economic backgrounds. This makes Riverside unique in that it is catering for most spectrums of society. There is also a high rate of transiency. Both factors create their own set of challenges to work through at the school.

The Role

As a Library Officer you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library, provision of reference information and maintaining the environment and associated services of the school library to support the learning outcomes of students. The Library Officer also administers the library systems ensuring library records are up to date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are always accessible and available to students and staff.

Library Officer’s will ideally have outstanding customer service skills to provide library support to our school community, our leadership team and staff. You would work in partnership with staff to create a welcoming and vibrant library environment for students and families. A love of books and a sound understanding of library systems, processes and stocktakes would be highly desirable.

The suitable applicants will ideally:

  • Support students and staff in locating and selecting age-appropriate and curriculum-aligned resources.
  • Deliver library skills sessions and display the effective use of library equipment and technologies.
  • Coordinate libraries visit schedules and supervise small groups of students as required
  • Prepare and monitor the library budget, including purchasing resources and relevant licences.
  • Provide technical advice regarding library information systems.
  • Supervise and support library staff and/or volunteers, including rostering in line with Departmental policy.
  • Contribute to maintaining an organised, welcoming and contemporary learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively within a shared library setting that supports both Riverside PS and the ESC community.

The suitable applicants will ideally display strong organisational and interpersonal skills, sound knowledge of library systems and processes, and the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively. Experience supporting information technology (IT) systems within a school environment would be highly regarded, and knowledge of the Oliver library management system is highly desirable.
