Unit Summary
The Neuroscience and Medicine program provides neurosurgical service across the continuum to individuals who suffer from brain tumours, traumatic brain injury and cerebral hemorrhages. 7 West is the Regional Neurosurgical centre for Ontario West: Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Burlington Region.
Position Summary
The social worker will primarily provide services to 7 West inpatients. The services provided range from from psycho-social assessment and treatment; crisis intervention; advocacy; supportive counseling; consultation; discharge planning; palliative care; patient/family/staff education; liaising with community resources. The Social Worker will enjoy a challenging practice, which requires excellent clinical skills, flexibility and a desire to work both independently and collaboratively in a variety of settings.

Qualifications
1. Current Certificate of Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as a Social Worker
2. Masters degree in Social Work or Baccalaureate degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work
3. Knowledge of Healthcare Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Child and Family Services Act
4. Excellent knowledge of community support and placement services
5. Excellent crisis intervention skills
6. Proven ability to work as a member of interdisciplinary healthcare teams
7. Proven ability to organize and prioritize patient caseload across several programs
8. Excellent communication skills
9. Hospital-based clinical experience in a variety of patient care areas preferred
Please note that all Social Worker postings are posted at the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) rate (unless MSW is required). Should the successful applicant possess a Masters of Social Work (MSW) and provide proof they will be adjusted to the MSW rate to correctly reflect the level of education in accordance with the letter of understanding.
